hi all,
I'm new on here and i hope you dont mind me asking for some advice. i have 3 boars. i got my first boar and decided to get him a friend but unfortunatly my new baby boar i got was ill and had to be quarentined away from my boar for a few months. in that time i got a baby and succussfully paired him with my older boar so i now have two boars that live together and one that lives on his own. so I'm back with the problem i started with, boar living alone! he can see my other boars and they squeak at each other but i cant have them in a run together or teeth start chattering and it upsets my two boars that live together. i thought about getting another baby boar and trying to introduce it to my boar that lives alone but was worried that if they didnt get on i would have two boars living alone. i also thought about getting my boar castrated then getting him a girlfriend but when i asked local vets about it they do not do the op routinely and i dont trust them. so i now have three choices, i can leave my boar as he is on his own but able to see and talk to the others, a friend has said i can take one of her boar babies and try and introduce it to mine and that if it doesnt work she will take him back, or i have found a vet about 1.5hrs from me who does the op regualry that i could take my gp to. I'm unsure which option is best as they all have down sides. would it be too upsetting for a baby if my boar didnt take to him and he had to be returned to the breeder after a few days? and would a 3hr car journey be to stressful for my boar for him to have his op? thanks.

A warm welcome to the board.

Please do not get the piggy castrated, this op does not alter the behavior pattern and will not make it unagressive,.It will not sort out the fighting problem. The neutering op also carries risks.

The set up you have now is fine,I have several boars who will not live with another male but are happy to see,and talk to them through the mesh.

It would be worth a try with your friends piggy.Introduce them on neutral ground.

Have a look at Barmy 4 Boars website, there is useful info. on bonding boys.

Good luck with this.Let us know how you get on.

I personally agree with Mary and go with trying to bond your friends baby boar with your lone boar following advice on the barmy4boars website. There are risks to any op and possibly a sow near your bonded boars could cause them to fall out :-\
Having said that, a lot of people on here have successfully had their boars neutered with no problems. Maybe try bonding baby first then if that doesnt work out, you still have the option of neutering :)

Hi Welcome to the forum, O0 I'm exactly in the process of trying to bond a resue boar i have taken.Me and Mr Boar are off on out travels this saturday to see the reaction he has to some baby boars, If all goes well Mr Pig will have a friend and if not i am going to get him neutered and put with my girls. Lucky i do have room in case they fall out a later date to either then put Mr pig in with my girls and have the new pig when big enough neutered to get another girlfriend for him.
Good luck with what ever descion you make! ;)

thanks for the advice. I'm going to try bonding mine with a baby boar. i feel better doing it knowing that my friend will take baby back if ti doesnt work and i wouldnt be left with two on there own. i followed the advice on the barmy for boars website when i paired up my other two so hopefully it will work for me again. his new cage arrives nxt week but I'm not going to put him in it till hes been introduced to baby and then if we get to the trying them together in a cage stage it will be a new cage to both of them. I'm sooooo devestated that your advice is to get a new cute baby guinea pig and not excited atall, its not for me though I'm doing it all for popcorns wellbeing (well thats what I'm telling my partner)! ;)

One of these is your best options, I have 3 boys living seperately but side by side so that can chat and wiggle at each other! But I reckon you should try a baby with him first as others have said. If you get him neutered to live with a female it may upset the two you have already paired...........

Anyway its always exciting getting a newbie! I think your doing the right thing O0

I am all for neutering myself and giving a girlfriend or two once the op has been done ;) I have found already bonded males are not all bothered by Sows living close by and does not cause the bonded pair to fall out. I have had a boar neutered and he lives with two sows and in a couple of months I will have another boar done to live with two sows. Good luck with what ever you decide to do :)
