Hi All, I'm new, Lovely to be on the Chat.
I have 3 piggies who live indoors - 2 sows in one cage and my lovely teddy boar in another. They come out about 4pm to play free-range downstairs and happily go back to bed about 9pm.

I have a quandary that I need help with, please...
My boar is about 18 months old and is mostly blind. I got him a year ago from a rescuer. He is confident, fun-loving and friendly. However, I feel his eyesight is getting worse - (he regularly asks to come out of his cage, standing next to an open doorway) so I was thinking about getting him a cage-mate. I think the girls cage, although 2 storey, is only big enough for 2.
Should I try it ? and if so, would I risk a boar, who might turn out to be over-bearing, or a sow, who, I'm told, could be hormonal and pose a threat to the other sows.?
My little boy is neutered.

Your advice would be gratefully received, thank you. :)

If you go to a good rescue they will help you, and him, choose the perfect cagemate.

Pigs don't have great eyesight anyway so he'll be okay with a cagemate.

If your boar is neutered, could he not go with your sows? I know you say the cage is small, but could you combine the two cages to make one big one? :)

Hello, welcome to the forum. Whereabouts are you located we may be able to recommend a rescue nearby

I think he would do well with a friend. One of my pigs went blind in her later years and she really benefited from having a friend to follow around. It made her more confident (she also would do things like not being able to find the door sometimes, etc.) With a friend to follow that solved a lot of her issues. Given that he's neutered, I would probably look for a nice sow for him... I'm sure he would love his own 'wife' pig!
