my 5 month old boar, humbug, seems to have a pinkish colour to his urine. i wasnt sure at first as i thought it could be his droppings staining it. but i cleaned his pigloo today and put in fresh white bedding and noticed tonight that he has passed urine in there and i would definately say it has a pink tinge. he seems perfectly well in himself in every way and i would have no worries about him other than this. should i be taking him to the vets ? any ideas or help would be much appreciated - many thanks

Sorry I've got no clue, but it doesn't sound normal. Usually the urine is cloudy white/yellow. I think you should take him to the vet. Hope he's alright. xx

Can you watch for him too pass urine is he squeaking?

Something Similiar to this?

Thats my boar Patrick he has a UTI (Well is being treated for one).

Different food can cause their urine to change colour. Have you fed anything red? Like beetroot?

i havent heard him squeeking like that when passing urine but i will watch him more closely and make doubley sure - many thanks :)

i did give him a very small amount of beetroot a few days ago, all the other 3 had it aswell and their urine looks fine, i would love this to be the reason tho !

like i have said, he seems perfectly well, eating, popcorning, his usual character etc - its just this colour of his wee !

sigh - what a worry my babies are ! thanks for all the replies and all your invaluable knowledge - dont what i would do without you all ! lots of love x

Perhaps he over indulged and the others didn't like it very much. If you don't hear any pain squeaks from him and it goes back to normal, I'd say it was the beetroot. Mine had it when they were young and it tinged their wee.

I'm hoping thats the case but just seems strange that its still present days later ! how long do you think i should give it before taking action if it doesnt clear ? x

Sometimes foods like carrot, peppers etc. can discolour the urine. That is nothing to worry about.

Otherwise, it can be an indication of blood in the urine and the beginnings of a UTI (urinary tract infection). Have a look out for very smelly, increased peeing which will then turn very painful, so a piggy may cry when peeing. If you notice any of these signs, you need to see a vet.
