Panda - Bladder Problems Continue

Panda is still not a well pig. He's still squeaking in pain when he wees, he's still weeing all over himself and is therefore having to be bathed frequently to prevent sore skin. He's had various meds but there has been no improvement. Another urine sample today showed crystals in the urine, so Panda is going to the vet for the day on Monday, to have his bladder flushed out, and to have either an X-ray or ultrasound so that we can see exactly what is going on. The vets would prefer not to anaesthetise if possible, that's why we've been trying meds to start with, but now it is necessary. I know it's risky, but it's a risk we have to take, otherwise he will either live in pain, or be pts.
I will update on Monday when I know more, but please could I ask for your best healing vibes for Panda, especially on Monday.

I've been through bladder issues with 2 of my piggies, It's such a worry. Sending healing vibes for Panda (brilliant name by the way) and keeping all fingers and paws crossed for him. x
 
Keeping everything crossed. Your vet may be able to do the scan or xray conscious? especially a scan.
 
Sending healing viibes - my Bumble has just had a big op (an hour long ) to remove 2 large bladder stones - one of which was firmly attached to the bladder wall - I am just about to go on the viovet website - and order Protexin Cystopro for dogs - I need to give Bumble 1/4 - 1/2 a capsule daily - hopefully this will help - don't know if Panda is on this or it would help - but good luck.
 
He needs an operation to remove a large bladder stone. Fortunately it look as if there is only one stone, and it hasn't started to break up. He is having the op today so please keep everything crossed for my dear little Panda Pig.
 
He's had the op and was waking up (about 2 hours ago when I spoke to the nurse). They are going to let me know in a bit whether he can come home today or not - they want to be sure he is not going to have a crisis before they let him go.
Also I suspect they may want to do some extended cuddling, he is a very cute little piggy :)

He was allowed to come home last night but I had to keep him in the travelling box overnight so that I could be sure that any poo/wee was his. He did some poo and some weeing overnight so the vet was happy for him to go back in with Pedro.
Pedro was so happy that he popcorned round the run :)

Panda is still a bit quiet but he is eating reasonably well and is plainly much more comfortable. His wound looks clean and there is no redness or swelling. He goes back on Friday for a check up and hopefully that will be it.

The only one now feeling sick is me as I have to pay for the op, and a colic call out for one of the ponies a week ago. Panda's bill was over £300 but I would still rather have the pig than the money.

Hope Panda gets better soon. Just gone through bladder issues with my guinea pig and know how hard it can be on everyone concerned, including the money side as it gets very expensive with x rays, operation and medication. Best wishes to both.
 
He went back for a checkup yesterday and the vet was very pleased with his progress. He is healing so well, and now he has got over the anaesthetic, he's eating to make up for lost time. He's also talking a lot :)
The vet also told me yesterday that this was a first for their practice - no-one had ever done this op on a guinea pig before! I suppose a lot of people can't afford to pay for the op. I can't really afford it but I don't mind going without for a bit. The vet was amazed really, that he'd got over it all so quickly, especially given that he is a quite an elderly pig. She may never have done this op before but my goodness, she has made a fine job of it.
 
That's fantastic news, really good. Such a relief for little Panda, and for you of course (but not for your bank account). I too had a piggy who's bladder op cost over £300, so perhaps that's normal.
Sounds like he's really bounced back well. :hug:
