Hi all,

Knowing how much piggies love to play in paper bags and consider it piggy paradise if they're given a hay-filled bag, I'm on the lookout. I know Primark do paper carrier bags in various sizes but was wondering where else does bags suitable for piggy play?

Any tips please?

Thanks x

Greengrocers do good brown paper bags. I also use bags from the pharmacy but that is because I have to take so many tablets, a guinea pig can fit in the bag. :(|)

Hearing the word "greengrocers" is like taking a trip down memory lane....we just don't have any around here any more *sigh*......Haven't seen one in years! :)

Supermarkets here usually have long paper bags for flower bunches. They are FAB tunnels (with the bottom ripped off and ends folded up to make cuffs)! I often ask if I can have one or two for my guinea pigs and always get a weird look and a "sure" for an answer :))

Maybe florists have them?

When we go to McDonalds, even if we sit in, we ask for paper bags for the guinea pigs. They usually look at us like we are mental but just hand them over. Tesco also do 10 paper bags for £2.03 that are supposed to be for bins. When my friend bought a mobile phone from carphone warehouse I asked her for the paper bag. She said I needed a life....cheek! rolleyes:))rolleyes

McDonalds is a good one!

I know all to well about the "get a life- comment". It's really them who lead poor half lives without pigs!

Ebay is where i got my brown paper bags from. Filling them full of hay did remind me of the greengrocers as a child; obviously he wasn't filling his bags with hay :))

I was wondering this also. My nearest supermarket doesn't do mushroom bags. I was in the city centre yesterday and we have a big fruit and veg market and I was going to ask there but completely forgot 8...

I bought my mum a present for mother's day from Selfridges and gave my piggles the paper bag they put the item in.... They were not too impressed though!

My pigs only have expensive taste when it comes to hay... Paper bags, they will only settle for primark, topshop/top man, mcdonalds!

Thanks everyone - all top tips! :)

I tried to get mushroom bags in Tesco last night - they were paper but had cellophane windows in them so I figured they wouldn't be any good.

Skrikopanik - I've only ever seen plastic flower bags but will keep looking. Unfortunately I suspect that Sweden is waaaaay ahead of the UK when it comes to eco-friendliness. (Saving the planet is a great cause but it should just be a byproduct of keeping the world's guinea pig population happy lol!) ;)

McDonalds is another great one, which I'd completely forgotten, but I very rarely go there (trying extra hard to be healthy)....I'm willing to force myself to go more often though if it's for the benefit of my pigs. What a martyr?!

I guess if all else fails and my new shopping habits don't result in a regular supply of free bags then I could always buy some. It's still very cheap for the amount of fun it brings :)

Yay! Found some paper-only mushroom bags in Waitrose today. They're not that wide (I think only tiny piggies could get right inside) but I've stuffed one with chamomile herbage and my Yossi is having a LOT of fun getting his nose stuck right in!

Mine are having their first paper bag experience at the moment (and so are my 2 degus) - got 1 bag from a chemist and one from the vets. Hid some flaked peas in amongst hay in them and they are having a ball going in, foraging and tearing it...... although rolo got stuck in it and ended up rolling in it - when I looked in I could see her legs in the air rolleyes .....but she has gone back to it so its not put her off.....

lol the lure of the flaked pea!

Glad to hear it's a huge success :)

if you have a local home bargains or quality save they sell 10 paper bags with handles (think they are advertised as sandwich / lunch bags) for about 79p

I use the kitchen caddy liner bags - just about the right size for one big fat piggie and a load of hay :)). You can buy them in lots of supermarkets - packs of 10 paper bags for around £2.
