What could I mix with paper bedding to make it go further and reduce the cost?

It needs to be something as soft as possible and low dust.

Any ideas?

Are you looking for another paper bedding, some form of shavings, or something else entirely?

Anything really that I can mix with the paper bedding we already use. As long as it’s safe. Partner is allergic to lots but will have to try!

Tried Aubiose and Megazorb in the past and didn’t like those.

I was thinking of Back2Nature. The pellets are soft as far as paper pellets go, I've never had a complaint with them. They'll also hold more liquid than most paper bedding which can be a help or a hindrance, and it's heavy.

Finacard.co.uk.....shredded cardboard bedding is good.
You’ve just reminded me of a bedding we used for a while - Ecobed cardboard bedding. We bought it from Time For Paws and it was 20kg for £19.99 + £4.99 delivery. We stopped using it because our senior pig at the time was struggling to walk on it, even with hay over the top. We have Perry now who is 5.5 and has arthritis so I’m not sure if he would be comfortable enough on it. Might be ok mixed in with paper though?

Generally yes. I use mixed fleece and disposable bedding and woodshavings tend to be much better when I'm only trying to cover small bits of the cage.

I don't use it as a sole bedding since it used to irritate Jake's eye but that was an issue specific to him.

It's sawdust you really want to avoid, not woodshavings.

I was hoping to use the paper bedding mix underneath the hay in the hay area (2x2 c&c) and save the paper bedding for when I need it for the other part of the cage (4x2 c&c)

I’ve been having to use paper bedding in the 4x2 part more of the time because I can’t dry enough of the fabric bedding to change it all everyday which is unfortunately what it needs. Lola goes under all the pee pads, she drinks and wee’s a lot so it’s very wet very quickly, and Perry needs his vet bed pee pads changed frequently as he uses them a lot (he has arthritis)

It’s impossible to keep up so I’ve been using paper bedding and pee pads and luckily Perry can walk on it fine but it’s not ideal and I feel guilty. Also the paper bedding is unaffordable at this rate hence looking for something cheaper to mix in. Just feel bad on Perry because I want him to be as comfortable as possible :(

Nature's Own sells the softest woodshavings I've ever used, might be worth a look.

I used the points from my latest paper bedding subscription to try some aspen shavings. They’re quite nice actually mixed in with the paper. Still not the most affordable option so I’ll use them up then try something else. Probably the Nature’s Own when I next order some hay :)
