Toby loves chewing paper but I try to avoid him doing this as I think he will eat it and possibly cause himself harm? I've been reading some discussion on this and was wondering should I just indulge him in some paper?

My pigs eat the newspaper lining there cage and they are all fine hunni so i would let him have a nibble.

No i believe that it was a no go years back when printers used lead in the ink but now they dont its all ok

Paper

As Peter Gurney said in one of his books,it doesn't matter if they eat the newspaper,as long as they don't read it first !
Mine seem to enjoy tearing it up,but don't seem to eat much.:p

Some inks now are soy based, some are not. Unless you know which inks your newspaper company are using I wouldn't take the chance, personally. Put it this way, would you eat it?

My pigs only ever chewed on newspaper when their hay was running down (rare) and when their chube ran out. Perhaps give them more hay or invest in a chube which doesn't have the inks and is known to be safe.

Mine have chubes, timothy/meadow and wooden bowls to chew and still enjoy ripping paper!

I'm sure we've had this thread once before?

the paper is perfectly safe for them, Max chews on it if its sticking up but Max doesnt.

They nibble on their herbs and hay instead, as well as their parsley bell which is being gobbled up at this very point!

Mine tend to rip the newspaper or play with it, rather than eat it.

Sometimes I find it up in a tube shape in the morning after I made it all nice and flat the night before! rolleyes:))

My Cookie loves pieces of paper. If she sees you with some, she'll try to get it off you, and if your reading a newspaper whlst she is out on you she'll start chewing it :))
I'm glad that it's ok to give to them, I was a little worried incase it was dangerous.
