Hi there. Recently posted about a failed bonding for my little boy Nyx. He's now doing well parallel to my pair of bonded boars
Unfortunately Monty one of the other pair has suddenly developed chewing trouble. He is going to the vets tomorrow (along with his partner). Worst case scenario he will need an anaesthetic if he has spurs. She thinks an abscess also possible. As he is an old boy and if doesn't make it how do I help Nyx ? Should I put the body next to the divide so he can woffle noses like in life? We've had a bad run recently. Just hoping my boy will be ok. Thank you

Hi

I am every sorry. What an upsetting and worrying time for you. :(

As they are not bonded you can put him next to the grids - but please be aware that piggies can react very differently to a body. The easy option would be to just have Monty disappear as Nyx is not bonded to him and has not been with you for long.

Thank you. Nyx and his late brother spent periods in opposite hutches and parallel in the garden over the last three years with mine when they weren't staying at my sons. Nyx has been with me a month now full time
If the worst happens Clary will be with him so will know. Should I just put Clary back parallel with Nyx ? I don't want them stressed more than necessary. Fingers crossed none of this happens!

I’m sorry to hear this

But Yes, if the worst happens then clary and nyx will need to be side by side at all times

Ok. So I won't let Nyx see Monty should the worst happen. Thanks for the advice

If the worst should happen, letting Nyx see and smell Monty's body by the divider is actually a really gentle and wonderful way to give him closure so he understands why his little neighbor is gone. For now, try to take it one step at a time.

Hi again
My Monty has survived his operation having had four teeth spurs removed and an incisor removed also. He's home now eating some mint leaves following his meds. Clary went with him to the vets and little Nyx excited to see them home. He's very tired and flat but fingers crossed. Thanks for the kind thoughts

I am so glad that he is back home and eating. Please step in with syringe feeding to make up for any missing hay intake which you cannot judge by eye but which covers over three quarters of the daily food intake.

Don't worry about funny poos in the next day or two - they reflect the operation.
