Hi everyone, my guinea pig cookie was diagnosed with a rare disease which causes him to be paralysed. This means that he drags his back legs and the back of his body drags. He’s very happy and healthy and zooms round all the time with no trouble! I gave him his daily bath yesterday, and I noticed that he had something that looked like a bit of dirt/ poo stuck to him... it didn’t come off so i thought maybe it will be gone by tomorrow if it’s a bit of poo stuck in his hair. I bathed him this morning, looked a bit closerand it’s still there and has a fishy sort of smell! I’m quite worried as I changed his bedding to wood shavings the other day. Before, I used dust extracted straw but I thought maybe I could try something different that has less of an odour... so I’m not sure if he has an infection due to the bedding being changed to wood shavings? Any advice please?

Please get him to a vet asap. I've never heard of this happening before but it could cause serious problems if it stops him weeing

Gently extrude his willy from the sheath and check that there are no hair tourniquets wrapped around it which could be cutting off the circulation, and remove any sperm rods, those usually produce the fishy smell. Keep him as clean as you can and get him booked in at the vets as soon as you can.
