I'm probs just paranoid and this will probs sound daft but anyway...

my wee harold who ive had for about 6 months always lies in either 1 of his wee hideys, a pigloo with toweling in it or a catlitter tray with the wood stick things that u can bend over it to create a roof and that has newspaper base and is filled with hay

he comes out for a wander or to eat but recently hes been lieing out in the open on the towel base and going to sleep or just lieing chilling rather than using his hideys

is this normal I'm sitting worrying thinking all sorts my husbands finding this rather amusing and says I'm paranoid

hope so its just weird as he usually goes in his hideys to sleep

Hi! Harold sounds like he has started to feel very relaxed and confident in his new home. guinea pigs are prey animals that will only sleep out in the open if they feel really safe. :)

Have you considered finding Harold a companion by dating him at one of our good standard piggy savvy rescues that offer bonding under expert supervision at the rescue, so you come home only with a quarantined and guaranteed healthy mate if there has been success at no risk for Harold and you.
Unfortunately, the only two rescues we can recommend are a long way away in Alyth, Perthshire or in South Shields, but you would be in very safe hands in both places. A companion will give him plenty of stimulation. It is a myth that boars are unbondable; but it takes experience and time, neither of which most places that sell piggies can provide, or even many rescues.
You can find contact details in our rescue locator on the top bar if you wish to.

I eas going to but the lady that had him had alot of piggies and tried to bond him many a time and he never settled with any. hes very laid back and chilled alone but she said he totally changed when paired with others.

hes also not in a cage in my house he is free roaming with his own area set out and hes fab at staying in the area hes ment to so id probs need to buy new cage or grids to make a new home for another.

hes older aswell so think hes quite content

I have a 3 year old daughter who spends lots of time with him as do me and my husband and I'm pregnant so he will soon have another companion!

I know its not the ideal ive always had 3 guinea pigs at least but he seems happy enough and as i only work 2 hours each evening I'm always in keeping him company and he is in living room where we all spend most our time

(longest post ever)
