Both myself & others thought Tia had dandruff. She seemed very sleepy today, when I picked her up for a cuddle. I found she had lumps on her back & she had scratched it raw. So off to the vets. Turns out she had a parasite infestation. So she had drops on her neck. The vet probably thought it had come from the hay. So we have to treat all our piggys. So now settled back in her cage with lots of food, that's made her happy. Lol

What kind of parasites? Guinea Lynx :: Parasites

She did say some Latin name & then just parasites & it was common to piggys. Sent my husband so say no more. Lol

It sounds like mange mites. Please make sure that you do the full course to prevent a return and not just a one-off treatment. Online advice can never replace a vet visit; we can only judge from what you show and tell us, but we cannot handle the piggy and check for often rather tell-tale signs, especially in the very early stages.

I thought it was dandruff so it's my fault, she's had drops on the back of the neck & we have to do it again in 2 weeks so fingers crossed. They do the same stuff on Amazon at half the price so I'll get it on 24 hr delivery or see if pets are us have got it.

Is it xeno? that is the best spot-on product. Ideally, you do 3 rounds with an acute attack. the first two are to kill any mites and the third is to wipe out any stragglers.

All of our hay now goes through the freezer for 24 hours to kill off any mites after we had a bad infestation. The vet said we could also microwave it but all I could imagine was my house burning down!

Does the Xeno 450 kill mange mites Aswell or just lice?
I think it kills the lot, it's good stuff, the only thing Tia is left with it looks like bad dandruff, I think it is all the dry skin coming off. I use a tiny bit of savlon to keep her skin moist. If you think your piggy has mites/lice is to pop her to the vet.
I don't think you should use anything unless you see the vet. You could be doing more harm then good. Hope your piggy soon gets well. xx
