Parsley has settled in very well (we've had him for 2 months) and he and Clover are getting on fine (apart from the occasional grumble from Her Ladyship!)

On Sunday evening Parsley suddenly started twittering and chirping just like a bird. I've never heard the sound in all my 16 years of having piggies. He was obviously ok but gave us all a start. He kept it up for a minute or so, stopped for a rest, then had another chirrup for another couple of minutes. That was it - no more since. I've heard stories about sounds like this made by teenage boars but they're very rare so not sure.

Any ideas?

got this from guinea lynx

Why? People have proposed various reasons for this unusual behavior. An upset or startled guinea pig may chirp. Some guinea pigs reportedly chirp "for the hell of it", "all the time, for no reason!" Others claim their pigs are in season. Most of Nina's chirps result from being severely startled. She has also been "inspired" to chirp if I play this clip a few times. Swannie posted, "We reckon the chirping is some kind of communication with the Mother Ship." This may be as good a guess as any.
When? Pigs will chirp any time of day -- from 4 o'clock in the morning to any hour at all. Nina seems to do all her chirping during the daylight hours.

Feel yourself blessed! :)):)):))

I've heard it only twice in all my life (from two girls). I hope that you will get a repeat one day; it's such a lovely sound!

Woody used to do it when he and Spike were first seperated, so birdlike that I thought our tame blackbird had finally gotten into the hutches at first. He's quite settled now though, just very chatty, now they're opposite each other they chat all day. Just a shame they didn't before they were split up.

My Kim has "sung" twice, both times for no apparent reason. Her sister looked rather surprised, but not scared.

I had the same. Willow has done it just once. Pippa looked a little confused, like she didn't know what to make of it :)

My Squeaky has sung a couple of times in the middle of the night - 1st time I heard it I thought a bird had got in....it was so loud too! She seemed fine, so I don't think she was distressed or sad. I was a bit freaked out though!
