Its two baby steps but they are in the right direction.

Silver is a very scared little boar which I had hoped the fishwives of weston would help him out of his scared little shell, all 3 girls are skittish but confident enough after a year to not run and hide when I approach their home, to not skootle off like I am some bird of prey and they are actually sitting there at the front in full view - all the better to see the food coming, waiting for me to pop that plate of veg or the handfull of grass in they are waiting for, even two of them being so confident they wheek at me till I do, and will take food from me through the bars.

Yesterday I weighed them all, silver was first as he seeks shelter to hide from me and will segregate himself from the girls as they are too confident for his comfort waiting up the front, and I offered him each of the type of veg on the plate as I held him in my arms. If he is being held he is the sweetest boar, chatting away, sometimes he rumbles at me (bless) and not the scaredy boar he can be but for the first time ever he took a bit of romaine leaf and a bite of cucumber before he remembered he should be scared and dropped it, but I was impressed with how far he has come with even this step.

But the biggest step was just now when I let pepper out in the garden, fudge was chirping away so I went over (quietly mostly as I didnt want them to start shouting for their veg just yet) and looked in the bottom of the hutch, fudge was sat there in full view, crystal was watching out, saw minty underneath a stool and low and behold, silver was under the other stool. Normally if they are shouting he is hiding as it means I am coming, but he was not so worried and was being part of the group, waiting for the food.

I know he will run and hide when I go and put the veg out in a bit, but its great that he is slowly getting the confidence the girls (his bouncers) are giving him and just being patient that he will gain some, even if not all the confidence he needs to live with the herd.

That's great news, patience really does pay off and it sounds like he is starting to trust you :)
