My oldest boy George is 2 years old. He developed foot spurs on both of his front paws about 6 months ago. I've been clipping them back every time I do his nails. Yesterday when I was doing it I noticed that the pads of both front paws now have a few cracks in them. Is this likely to be connected to the spur problem? Do I need to bring him to the vet? I don't think the paws are sore because he didn't complain anymore than usual.

I'm not sure what the problem is but I believe gorgeous guineas make a foot lotion that could help, and I've also heard rubbing coconut oil in to the effected area can help soften up the skin and stop it getting dry and cracked....read that on an American forum and I'm yet to find coconut oil here though.

Here's a link to the stuff GG make for cracked skin on paws: http://gorgeousguineas.com/ointments.html

Great! I have coconut oil here. I had to get it for Freddie's bottom a few months ago. I'll give it a try in the morning. I got mine in the chemist. I was looking for an actual jar of oil but it's in a tub and solid. It melts into oil as you rub it in. Maybe your looking in the wrong section? It does wonders for Freddie so hopeful it will sort out George too :)
