Hi all,

I'm pretty sure my boy has pea eye. Took him to vet and they weren't too worried. But suddenly, it's become very red and inflamed, a new growth has appeared. I'm starting to think it's maybe not just pea eye? :(

If anyone has any suggestions that'd be great. Just don't want him in any discomfort until i get him back to the vets.

Thank you! (Picture attached, I am slightly pulling down the eyelid in a couple of pictures)

Hi!

The white part that you see is the conjunctiva which is typical of pea eye. However the red parts look like t could be the start of cherry eye and would definately warrant another vet trip. An anti inflammatory eye drop such as fucithalmic ointment is usually what is prescribed:

Do you have a piggy savvy vet?

Thank you! I thought so. Yes we do thankfully! I have asked to see him specifically, unfortunately it's not until wednesday. Do you think he's in discomfort? I worry if he is, it's a bit of a wait until Wednesday.

The best way to gauge a piggies pain level is to see just how piggy like they are acting..

How is her weight? If you don't weigh her, start today and weigh daily to monitor food intake. If she's losing weight she's probably in pain. Is she still wheeking for veggies like usual? Finishing her veg? Active and popcorning if she usually does so?

If not then she may be uncomfortable and you should try get a sooner appointment over the weekend x

Yeah his behaviour and weight haven't changed at all. Put him in the play pen today with his mates, popcorned and vocal as always! He lets me look at the eye without wincing or trying to turn away. I guess these are good signs for now. Definitely will keep a close eye on him for any changes. Thank you for your help :)

I would definitely get a cavy savvy vet to look at that. It looks like the conjunctiva is inflamed.

Vet already booked. Was just wondering if I could make him feel more comfortable in the meantime :)
