i have a guinea pig named peanut and he is about 6 months old, i just today a few minutes ago bought another guinea pig. about 2 or 3 months old. both boys. i have a playpen and i put them in together and have been watching them like a hawk.

peanut makes the annoyance sound frequently and walks kind of funny. a few times i think he even nipped at the new one. is all of this normal?

and if its possible to have a runt guinea pig, i think the new one is.

I'm not gonna put them in the same cage till i know from somebody if thats normal and what to do next. thankyou =]

and if they just plain dont get along, thats fine ill buy a seperate cage =]

Hi

In my experience yes you can get a runt piggy and yes it is normal what peanut is doing so dont worry.
Keep putting them in the playpen and give them veggies and toys, do this for a few days and see how it goes.

Good luck & keep us posted.
Do you have any pigtures?

xx

Yes all sounds very normal - for boys! Introduce them on neutral territory like you have been, give them something else to do (nice veg to eat) to take their minds off it. They will rumble and chase and probably chatter, if they're not actually fighting then I would leave them to it (supervised). If you then take them apart and try again the next day, they'll probably start from square one again.

Perhaps you could keep them in one cage to start with but with a wire partition so they can see each other?

Also worth saying that you should really keep the new pig separate for the first two weeks in case he has anything infectious - I bought a new pig home once and put him straight in with one of mine - he looked healthy, but I should have known better - and they both ended up with a nasty case of ringworm, which meants a bath for them every few days, could only handle them wearing gloves etc.

We'd love to see some pics

yeah ive been taking a few pictures. i truly think he is a runt he is SO tiny.
i just get nervous cause i dont know if he can defend himself there is such a size difference.

i have a little playpen that hes staying in (food, waterbottle, toys).
i have them in my bedroom cause its the only room with heat atm.

he actually has eye boogies...well its not eye boogies, it looks like food got stuck. but ive been wiping them away. I'm gonna see if i can upload a few. they arent that great but i got a few.:))

they had playtime a few minutes ago and i was shocked that they were doing so well when all of a sudden the baby kept mounting the big one.

other than that, they were doing fine, sharing food..just hanging out.

i keep calling him the baby because i havent figured out a name for him yet, its either pipsqueak, squeaks, or squirt.

i have a feeling hes going to be a trouble maker. but I'm not too sure yet.

i like squirt a lot but my boyfriend has me on hold with random names that i dont like

When i got finlay (222g) to be Bertie's new friend (1232g) you'd have thought Bertie was going to smother baby Fin. Actually, it took a few days before Fin asserted himself as top pig and they're happy like that. Finlay runs the roost except he's not allowed in Bertie's house nor share his food bowl. So don't worry yourself too much. Are you sure your big guy is a .... guy? Finlay's never tried to mount Bertie (although he was looking for nipples when he first arrived).

well peanut is definitely a guy, the little one they said was a guy, let me go check...yep hes a baby boy haha.

he will jump on top of him and on the side of him too, but mainly from the backside. i think i saw him even nibbling hair, maybe cleaning him like a monkey? lol

they share food fine, I'm amazed. I'm so happy its really going in the right direction for them i think.

ok so update, i JUST put them in the cage together because i had to clean squirts cage. they were fine, first peanut was like 'what are you doing in here?' and now they are fine, ate together. i put both water bottles in there..and i think they are fine, no growling (the annoying noise). they are just minding their own business. i have to go to work later today for a few hours but my fiance will be home not too shortly after, think its ok to say thats squirts new home? I'm looking very hard for a new cage. so only for a while.

Good luck. Its so nerve racking leaving them alone for the first time!

yeah i was very nervous because after a while peanut started getting annoyed and walking funny again, but once i put lettuce in there for the first time they were happy haha.
