Over the weekend I discovered a hard lump on Peanut Butter's back. He went to the vet's this morning for his regular dental and she will do a biopsy at the same time. Then I have to wait for lab results. Will be on pins and needles until we know what the lump is. Please send your positive thoughts that this will be something benign. I am beside myself with worry as this poor little lad already has enough to contend with in regards to his toofies.

PB is back from the vet. She found a second lump under one of his arms. She has done a cytology via needle aspirate on both lumps and is convinced they are sebaceous cysts. But, it is still up to me if I want a biopsy sent to the lab to confirm. She suggests I monitor his lumps for 2 weeks and then bring him back for a check-up, unless of course they start looking problematic sooner. From what I've been able to find on these cysts they are not dangerous but can become infected and/or turn into abcesses. Anyone have experiences with these?

On a humorous note, I loved how the bill states "consultation exotic pet"!

Sorry but I just saw this now. Thank goodness it is nothing serious. Two of my piggies have fatty lumps and Amelia Jane had a cyst on her back. It went on its own.

I got a shock when I saw it on her back as it was the first time I had had guinea pigs. They did suggest trying to remove it but I knew it would go on its own and did not want to put her through anything. It never caused her any pain so I left it. I hope Peanut Butter's is the same.

Really hope it is nothing to worry about.
Sending healing vibes to your 'exotic' pet! :laluot_29:

Thanks. Hopefully the next 2 weeks will prove it is nothing to worry about. Just read on the forum that cancerous tumours are rare in piggies, so hopefully I am OK in accepting the cyst diagnosis and not going for a biopsy. Every time I look at PB now I say " Hey you exotic you". It just might become his new nickname.

Oh good, then I will accept the vet's diagnosis and keep a watch for the next 2 weeks. I was shocked when I felt the lump too as it is my first experience and then when I got told he had 2 of them!

Sir Finley and Mabel also have lumps...so far they haven't grown into anything so will keep my fingers crossed that this is the case for you!

Well, PB is in good company then! It is a relief to discover that other piggies on this forum have lumps as well that turn out to be benign.

wow that is good news!

I was just going to tell you Stan has lumps on his belly but no need now pahahaha x
