Adult Guinea Pig
After months of different anti-biotics for a UTI, the UTI seemed to have cleared up but my vet was worried about the tip of Peanut Butter's penis still being red. So he was referred to the Brisbane Birds And Exotics Veterinary Services - the only such specialist we have in Brisbane.
The specialist didn't think the tip of his penis being red was anything to worry about as there was no smell or gunk. It may just be normal for PB since we never saw his penis before the UTI happened. She said he was in excellent condition and was amazed that only his incisors were a dental problem. She did double check and agreed his molars were great. I did tell her we had X-rays done of his head and it shows a massive overbite, hence the incisors overgrowing. She said it was lucky because incisors are much easier to deal with then molars. I guess that's why we have been able to do his monthly dentals for more than 2 years now and it has not affected him or his appetite.
Anyway, no more anti-biotics for PB which he is very happy about. To keep on top of any recurring UTI she suggested we get a urine sample each time he goes in for his monthly dentals. She doesn't know what a big ask that is as PB never seems to have a full bladder when you want it! I have discovered the only way to get a urine sample from PB is to syringe him 2mls of pro-biotic flavoured water every 30 minutes and then have the phone ring to startle him into peeing. This takes about 3 hours from start to finish!
