I heard PB squeaking in pain twice last night. Took him out of the cage, had him on my lap for an hour feeding him his fave veg treats & of course nothing. This morning whilst sat at the computer right next to his cage heard him squeak, rushed over & there was a fresh poop under him. Watched as he waddled over to another spot, squeaked again & I saw 2 poops drop, one after the other.

Have called the vet but my piggy specialist isn't in until 2pm tomorrow. Have booked him in for then & started giving him Tramadol again for pain. Hopefully he will be OK until the vet appt.

He was just in 2 days ago for a check-up & all was well. This boy worries me so much..

Poor you! PB is really giving you the run-about. I hope that you can sort this one quickly.

oh dear, ive just been through all this worry myself. Really hope the vet can sort PB out for you. Fingers crossed that he is comfortable with the tramadol x

Poor boy, really hope your vet can work out what is wrong. Wonder if he has some inflammation maybe,

I really hope the vet can help you too. Hope he gets better soon!

Yes, I saw your sad news I am so sorry. I just hope I won't be posting in that section any time soon! So far PB still seems himself except for the pain.

Oh no poor PB, sending you and him lots of love x

The vet palpitated him & did find he was having pain somewhere in his nether regions but nothing she could immediately diagnose. As she had house calls for the rest of the day Peanut Butter is booked in this morning for an ultrasound & any other tests that might be warranted based on the results of the ultrasound. She said to bring his hospital cage with food & water as he'll be there a while! I haven't yet finished paying off his $1000 bill that I racked up with VetPay. Have been busily searching through my credit cards to see which ones I have credit left on after the usual Xmas blowout.

Oh Lilly you and little Peanut Butter are having such a hard time. You are the most fantastic mother any piggy could wish for. I have you both in my thoughts.

Fingers crossed its nothing nasty, and hope you find that cash. I think we always find a little bit more when we need it most x

Lilly, you are such a wonderful mum. Thinking of you both today x

PB had an ultrasound, X-ray & bloodwork. Nothing came up except his bloods showed some sort of low grade infection so have put him on a 14 day course of Zithromax. The vet has posted his X-ray on some exotics vet forum she belongs to in case someone can spot something. Just can't seem to work out where or why he is in pain when pooping unless it really is this mysterious mild infection somewhere.

@helen105281 no inflammatory cells showed up like they did before & his abscess is completely healed now.

That's good news about the abcess, really hope the Zithromax helps with the infection.

Ah thank you, that's Phoebe. Sadly we lost her on Tuesday. We have another skinny called Katie who is pure black.

Xray won't show it - but problems with the prostate can also cause squeaky poopies in boars...and this is a problem only just starting to be documented/recognised in piggies so would be helpful if you vet could also ask on her forum about experiences with prostate problems in male pigs.

Also -given the ultrasound - as well as prostate issues, look for bladder sludge: I had a piggie who sqwauked when pooing....we identified a bladder sludge problem and that he only sqwauked when fed leafy greens. He had a bladder flush and was put on a diet excluding leafy greens (but could eat carrots, baby corn, parsley, basil, grass and dandelions)
He has been marked down as a urinary pig and we have been waiting for him to develop stones.~

- 3 years on he is still sqwauk-free and after 3 recent Xrays over the last year because of pain/not eating it turns out he STILL has NO visible urinary issues (he had a jaw abcess). The bladder flush and diet have worked an absolute treat.

I wish more vets would offer a bladder flush in early urinrary pigs (especially those with suspected interstitial cystitis/slduge) rather than wait for the inevitable stones to develop.

Well done on opting for bloods - it's a brave decision but sometimes extremely necessary to try and get to the root of a piggie problem. The increased WBC count could not only indicate a low level infection but also inflammation from interstitial cystitis of non-bacterial origin (ie sludge).
Please get your vet to post the bloodwork and ultrasound results as well as Xrays on her forum.

Ooooh thank you, I will be asking for a bladder flush, can't hurt. PB will only eat carrots, parsley, grass, dandelions and --- cos lettuce! That is his favourite unfortuantely & he gets a leaf most days. Is that what I should cut out?

Yep -absolutely cut out lettuces of all kinds .....(I know it's hard - my Carson piggie is very good at sad-eyed cute begging!) ......but even relenting and giving a couple of small bits of lettuce causes him to start sqwauking again

Think natural forage - (not easy in winter)....but I have found the following can be given with no ill-effect: parsley, dill, basil, mint and coriander herbs (I buy the fresh pots and grow them til I kill them!) )............as well as grass, dandelions, wild sorrel, wild parsley, plantains, young brambles, wild strawberry leaves, birch leaves etc

There is also the dried natural forage: dandelion delight, clover & plantain mix and guinea pig herbal forage (sold at P@H) are a better option than fresh veggies during the winter months. Also try some speciality hays - like green oat and timothy.

Plenty of variety in the above sugeestions to keep him happy and sqwauk-free!

Edit: fresh apple, finely=chopped celery and pepper in small amounts are also OK

Oscars fave was romaine and we had to cut that completely. Felt bad but who knows, maybe I wouldn't have had him for as long as I did without the changes to diet.

I'm in Australia so no P@H here. Not much in the way of specialty hays or dried natural forage either except what Oxbow Australia offers. But we have grass year round! And that is the piggy fave so no problems there.
