he is having a very hard time breathing and it sounds like he has A LOT of mucus. i am taking him to the vets on monday so hes deffinitely going to get help.
hes been acting really weird for 3 days now. very quiet..he will actually lay down on me and thats never happened. his eyes get a little crusty and he just looks sick.
does anybody know whats wrong? my OH says its just a cold and he sounds so bad when i hold him i just cry.

sounds like a URI. Many people on here will be able to help you some more. Good luck and keep I'm warm and away from drafts until then. Oh, and rest and plenty of fluids may help too.x>>

is that contagious to other guinea pigs? because my other ones are kinda raspy too.

It does sound like he could have a URI, and will need vet confirmation and treatment as soon as you can. Where are your pigs kept, are they in a draughty area or at floor level? Sometimes they can contract these things if in those types of places. Not sure about how contagious it is I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone will be along to help soon who has experience of this.

not usually contagious, but if all pigs have been kept in a similar environment they all have a chance of having it.
and yep he does need a vet, good luck

Pigs don't get colds per se. Any respiratory infection needs a one off dose of diuretic, as pigs get problems with fluid in the lungs (as opposed to mucus), so please be sure your vet gives Peanut some Frusemide (aka Lasix or Dimazon). Good luck, let us know how he gets on.

we have an apointment today at 12 for him.
they live on the floor in a huge cage open top.
they were under a window sill and we just yesterday morning moved everything around so they arent so close to the window.

i know that goober is sick, not so sure about squirt or pumpkin.
so I'm going to ask if its possible to get a little extra medicine.

so the vet gave peanut some sulfatrim.
.04ml twice a day.

she didnt want to give me anything but i insisted it would make me feel better if he had some meds.
told me to seperate him so i just put together another little cage for him.
new waterbottle, food dish. hes a happy piggie.

Good luck i hope Peanut improves quickly and back to his normal self real soon, sending HEAPS of healing wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks for him and his friend Goober as well xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

awwww thankyou =]

i heard goober make that same choking noise that peanuts been doing.
so now i know they have the same thing.

would it be possible to give goober some of peanuts meds too?
