Peanut's Lump

We've just got back from the vets, Peanut is booked in for a lump removal tomorrow morning. Nutty's been on lump watch since January, a small lump in his dewlap which hadn't changed at all until last week. At Friday's health check it seemed maybe a little bigger, by yesterday it was definately bigger so we've opted to have it gone whatever it is and deal with the results whatever they are as and when. Spike's going to go with him to hold his paw. I'm off to read all the care support threads and try to keep my mind off tomorrow. Please send Nutty lots of healing vibes.

Good luck and healing wheaks being sent from Christian. He knows all about operations having had a major one last year. The worst bit is the waiting for the phone call from the vet to say everything is fine.
 
Thank you @Wiebke he would have had this lump removed in January if he'd been any of my other piggies, this one is such a terrified little character we were hoping to avoid it. These vets are fantastic, we've started him on catease tonight as even todays vet visit is likely to start off his squeaky wees. He's in lovely condition for a 5 year old so hopefully he will sail through this op and have a few more years with us yet.
 
Good luck with your operation Peanut! Hope the lump isnt anything too serious. Healing wheeks, and Tallullah chocolate hippo piggy sends extra piggy kisses as she's had a lump removed before too x

Peanut and Spike are home, it's been a very quiet and nerve wracking day! It was an abcess, the whole capsule has been removed so hopefully that's the end of it. It's been sent off to the lab so we will know in a week or so if we are on the right antibiotic, for now he is on Baytril and Metacam. He has apparently been eating and drinking but I haven't witnessed this myself, he's not come out of the carrier since we came home, I've left it open in the cage. I have recovery food to syringe if I need to along with probiotics. It's such a relief to have him home.
 
I missed this yesterday and glad to see that all has gone well. I would syringe him some feed anyway, with piggies of mine that have had GA I find the cc or mushed pellets can help kickstart their appetite while they are groggy

Thank you. The recovery food is all mixed up and ready to go later when I get him out for his meds. I don't want to handle him more than I have to at the moment. I've just been out and picked some grass and put it in the carrier, he's having a munch on that. I took some grass into the vets with them this morning which made the nurse smile. I knew if anything got him eating when he came round grass would!
 
He's just had Baytril, Metacam and 10ml of recovery food, took it like a little lamb. Bet he's more like a lion tomorrow when he's more awake. He's back in his cage now looking really sorry for himself.
 
Aw poor lil Peanut. I'm sure he'll perk up tomorrow once the GA has left his body. They are a bit groggy for a day or so. How big was the abscess? It's good that they got the whole capsule out intact. Did you see it at all? Christian's was massive!

No I didn't see it, I just got a call from the vet to say that's what it was. I would say it was about the size of a 50p across from how it felt. It seemed to double in size from Friday to Monday after not changing for 6 months. The vet wanted to aspirate it and wait another week for the results before removing but I was afraid of how big it was going to get considering how quickly it was growing. This was a different vet to the one who saw it in January.
 
Glad Peanut has come through his op ok.
I find it’s the few days afterwards that are the more stressful as they recover and start to eat again.
Hope Peanut does recover quickly and that you are bearing up

He's miserable this morning, he's scratched his eye! Back to the vets at 12 o'clock. He's not eating for himself but he's had 20ml recovery food so far this moring, lots of wee and poops thank goodness, hopefully we will be back on track once he starts some eye drops.

As the hooman with a haypoke eye injury this week (wheek) I can definitely sympathise with poor Peanut! Lump removal surgery then an eye problem poor little guy is having a bad time of things :(
A tip from a hooman with a haypoke corneal contusion injury: I think the antibiotic eye drops need to be kept in the fridge, next to the coriander and lettuce. So every eye drop dose naturally involves leafy piggy snacks :)
I think my hooman vet said every 4 hours?

Are hooman eye drops kept next to wine & chocolate?
Sorry to hear you have hay poke- you shouldn’t keep burrowing in the hay.
