i think it must be pregnancy stress i dunno but i never noticed that right where her tail would be she has a big red patch, she is obviously itching like mad as its sore looking... ive given her ivomectin and dusted it with anticeptic powder (for small animals) and i really hope she is ok... i never noticed it till after she gave birth! she wasnt scartching before!

I'm a bit scared hope she sorts out soon i hate seeing her irritated and sore!

Can you get a picture?
It could well be mites and if it is the ivermectin will clear it up within a few days, but it could also be self-induced soreness from biting and scratching.

Does it look anything like this? Silvermist started biting a week before giving birth, stopped after she'd had the babies and started again when they were about a week old. I treated it with an antiseptic cream from Morrisons before the babies were born and soothed the itching with good old vaseline as I was worried about the babies licking it off. I have to say as soon as the vaseline went on she stopped biting and scratching, but it got SO much worse than this picture shows, it was awful! Good luck x

Hope she will be ok Clare. I use Xeno 450 on mine. Probably the stress of pregnancy. :)

I have to get mine posted over as the pet stops in ireland are not allowed to sell over counter ivomectin! (durrr!) i got anti parasite spot on (contains ivomectin) the make is beaphar... i did get a shot from the vet before and self administered it to one of my boars nver again......

Thanks glynis... its sad isnt it, but she looking a bit better today.. i reiki 'd her to bits ;last night (from distance!)

LOL it's no problem, apparently itching and biting and scratching around the tail area is quite common during the last stages of pregnancy and after giving birth..Silvermist was quite literally raw, she had these big, oozing patches but she wouldn't leave them alone! She went completely bald on her back end but the furs coming back now and it's all velvety :)p Hope it helps x

xeno 450 was recommended by my vet for longer term use. If you're worried about the sores get her checked out. There seems to be a lot of cases of mites about.

she is loads better now, still big bald rump the vasaline worked she not itching atall! (also the ivomectin will have kicked in I'm guessing.... she is nursing her babies beautifully and I'm so proud of her :)
