Stevie was really calm and pleasant during our nail clipping session. Claws are always hard to cut, especially the dark ones.
Just out of curiousity, do you guys' piggies give you a hard time when attempting to clip their nails or do they just sit still? I'd say about half of my guinea pigs patiently wait for it to be over while the other half keep pulling their paw away the entire time.

If you feel like it, please share pictures of your guinea pigs' feet and claws, they're so tiny and adorable.

Here's a photo of Stevie showing off her new pedicure:

Our current girls are okay to be honest, we just distract them with food.

Hate black claws, fill me full of dread!

Stevie is gorgoeus by the way!

Hit and miss for mine. Two tend to stay still. Daisy is a wriggler and tries to see what you are doing which makes it harder and lily is a kicker.

None of my 6 stay still. I cut the nails I can without too much fuss on weigh/health check day and keep in mind which ones need another few nails done as the week progresses. I keep a pair of clippers in the cupboard next to my chair so I can clip a nail or two at cuddle time before the clippers get noticed! If I can catch my OH at home at a convenient time we can do whole piggies together, a whole set of nails is a two man job.

I have an all black piggy. She has pinky toenails that curl in. She is also a drama queen about everything. I bought a nail grinder. It works perfectly! Do t have to worry about cutting too short! I give her lettuce and she fiddles a bit, but her curly toenails look so much better!

I’m a whimp and take my piggies to the vets to have their nails trimmed.

Stevie is a cutie xx

Thank you!
That is an option, the vet is probably the best at clipping them painlessly and effectively, I always get scrared of cutting them too close.

Haha yes, some piggies are always calmer and others seem like they're always restless.

Yeah, sometimes it definitely seems like I would need an extra couple of hands. I too keep clippers near my cuddle-spot incase I manage to sneak some clips during cuddle time.

That sounds great, Ash too has curly toenails. I want to cut them as close as possible, but I'm scared of hurting him. I think I might try something like a nail grinder and see if it works better, thanks!

I always take mine to the vet where the lovely nurse trims their nails, weighs them and gives them a quick check over

Yeah, making sure they're healthy is always worth it, even if the vet can get expensive. But every piggy's life is priceless, so any money spent on them is money well spent!

It's not so much restlessness as dislike for the human. Apparently humans are ok to be observed from the comfort of your home but you don't want to be picked up or held by one and woe betide should one look you in the eye... It's like Halloween all over again :))

Vet nurse pedicures for us, its worth it just to not be the bad person who gets the accusing piggy looks! And Jezebel gets the actual vet seeing as she has curly grungy nasty toenails that are really thick... poor girl is so beautiful and floofy but with such ugly feet...

Yes, everytime I cut my piggies' claws I feel like I have to apologize all the time because they do give judgy looks! But it has to be done.

Yes that's true. Even if I were to like someone I wouldn't want them to pick me up all the time. Half of my piggies really don't like being picked up, so I usually only pick them up when I have to.
