As the title states, my 5 year old boys pee comes out pink then turns clear. I made his vet appt for tomorrow but can anyone tell me what this could be? He didn’t get any veggies that could change his urine color. I’ve noticed it happening today only.

Hi

It's usually the other way round, as clear urine oxidises when in contact with the air and coloured urine (from veg or natural porphyrin dye in the case of a urinary tract infection of some sort).

I would recommend that you get a urine sample and have it checked for the potential of a small amount of blood. What you cannot check is whether the amount of vegetable dye was just too small to show up in the puddle.

To get a urine sample: Sit your piggy in a plastic crate with a wipeable floor, give them some cucumber to eat and wait - it can take several hours if a piggy is holding it in. Ideally you want several pees as some pees can be clear and others may not. Suck the pees up and keep the receptacle (ideally a small medicine bottle) in the fridge.
Be aware that taking urine samples to the vet in the case of suspected diabetes doesn't work; that needs to be freshly expressed at the vet's.

PS: Please accept that if the vet expresses the bladder on the examination table, this often triggers the release of a small amount of blood.
