Dental Pee on chin?

My guinea pig is very sick at the moment and we are taking him to the vet tomorrow. He has become lethargic and he started grunting. I believe he has URI. But what was even more weird is that he has pee on chin? I read its for guinea pigs who have dental issues. I highly doubt dental issues because he is eating carrots and other hard food like pellets. Can it still be dental issues? What could have caused the pee chin? I am very worried because my last piggy died of URI. (Yes he has a friend)

Hi!

Please have your piggy vet checked by an out of hours service asap as an emergency if there is any chance you can get to a service that is open. Grunting is a sign of extreme pain, especially in the gut, and lethargy is a sign that your piggy is very, very ill and at risk of losing their battle if you wait until tomorrow. The 'pee on the chin' is likely a sign that you piggy is salivating and no longer able to swallow, pass and process food because of a blockage or a twisted gut.
Only a hands-on vet examination can give you the answer and the help your piggy needs NOW - or at least spare them hours suffering an agonising death as it may be sadly already to late.

Sorry not to have any better news but this is really a life or death emergency!

Unfortunatly we cannot take him to the vet and does grunting only when petted, I believe you thought it was a part of how he breathes normally. He is still eating so he is hanging in there still
 
So are you not able to take him to the vet today then? I’d start weighing him daily at the same time. You can’t judge how much he is eating just by looking. Is he still lethargic?
 
sorry What I meant was we could not do it that day we are taking him to the vet today yes he is lethargic but he decides sometimes to take a bite or two of veggies also i am giving some critical care to make up for his weight loss. For a sick pig he really wants to eat because every time I bring veggies for my other one he comes out and waits for the veggies to be given but when I do it seems like he remembers that it hurts if he tries to eat
 
Also how do guinea pigs develop pee on chin? Is it like sweat where it just develops?
 
If the chin is wet then it’s likely saliva and not pee.
 
Good news he is gonna be fine! Doctor prescribed metcam and another medicine so yay!
 
What did the vet say was wrong and what medicine was prescribed? From what you are describing it sounds very much like dental problems
 
Upon further inspection my guinea pigs front teeth are going opposite ways his upper teeth are in the right place but bottom teeth are going to the left or vise versa i Will start a new thread for his dental issues
 
Frustrating my vet said his teeth were fine when I checked it i could see it >:( idek what she saw :( I believe he got this by biting of the bars of the cage
 
My guinea pig went to the vet today because I was worried he had uri and my vet told me he had uri and prescribed me metcam And something else. She told me his teeth was good. I was like okay but I researched some more and saw that most of his symptoms were for Dental issues. I looked at his teeth and low and behold his front teeth were not regular. His top teeth were in the right place but his bottom teeth were shifted to the right a bit...The Symptoms he is having is for malocclusion but his teeth are not overgrown...I think he got this from biting on the bars begging for food. We are gonna take him to the vet again.. FuN. In the meantime I am giving him some soft food and critical care. Should I give him metcam? Do you guys know what this is called when teeth are shifted ?

That's very unlikely that it's from biting the bars. The front teeth being misaligned usually means overgrown back teeth
 
I would also consider looking around for a vet more knowledgeable in guinea pigs. If your vet wasn't even able to recognise that the front teeth were misaligned then I wouldn't hold hope for being able to look at the back teeth let alone fixing the problem
 
I searched online and saw that guinea pig teeth can shift from scurvy which he has had scurvy before...is it true the teeth can shift from scurvy also should i give Him metcam?

I have no experience with scurvy. I would say it's more likely to be overgrown back teeth
 
we are getting him to a different vet also because when they thought he had uri and I asked how long to give it for they said i don’t know
 
Are you able to post a clear photo of his front teeth? I’ll tag @furryfriends (TEAS) who has extensive experience with dental piggies.
 
I will get a picture of his front teeth but I have a question. Am I allowed to clean him with this foaming natural pet cleanser for guinea pigs since his fur is look nasty and the saliva
 
Perhaps use plain water rather than shampoo/soap. If it’s saliva it won’t be that mucky. I assume it’s only under the chin that’s dirty. Are you going to have his teeth looked at?
 
My mum went to the dental vet and she said his front teeth were fine it is just the way he eats but there is something in his throat blocking. I am so glad it has nothing to do with dental or URI whew
 
So what is blocking his throat and what will be done about it?
 
I am not sure my mum told me it was a hair ball or something he will be going under anesthesia to get it out
 
this does explain better why he was grunting and wheezing a tad
 
Spoke too soon, he has abscess in his mouth :( The vet drained it. It is a big one too. oh god
