hi
I've been following the advice on the forum that says a tablespoon of pellets per day per guinea pig. This works out at about 15 grams. On the side of the Burgess Excel pellet bag it says a minimum per guinea pig of 30 grams a day. I know the manufacturers would like more to be eaten as that means the next bag is bought sooner (!), but is 15 grams a day definitely correct?

Yes Its one tablespoon. When I weighed out 1tbsp of burgess pellets though it came to 6g.....I’m going to have another check out of curiosity though!

Definitely dont go by the packaging - they can put whatever they like on it!

EDIT - Yep sorry just seen you’ve calculate per pig! So yes 15g between the two of them is fine

Thanks @Piggies&buns , can you let me know your tablespoon weight! It just looks so little! Ours might have been 6g - we could hardly read it, it was so close to 0!

They really don’t need many pellets at all. I actually only fed half a tablespoon each (so this amount split between both of them) when I used to feed burgess.

Yes my tablespoonful of Science Selective grain free pellets weighs as 5g, I think my spoons are smaller than some people use, but my piggies do fine with 5g of pellets which is about 24 pellets each per day, split between 2 meals, and they are all quite hefty and healthy! Some days they get less in fact, if I feed a high calcium veggie selection I often skip the pellets with that meal so they just get 12 pellets/2.5g that day...

Mine get a tablespoon each per day and they are happy and healthy all except Meg. She sometimes gets a few more as she is on palliative care and I like to spoil her a bit as I don't know how much longer she'll be around. Could be a week, could be a month, could be longer ..... Only Meg knows when she is ready to toddle off to the Rainbow Bridge.
