I'm trying to get my brood to eat the pellets as I have heard they are much better and prevent selective feeding. However, although I have mixed the pellets with muesli, so they can get used to it gradually, its been a week now and they are selectively eating all the muesli and leaving the pellets. Do I just leave the pellets and let them all get so hungry they have to eat them? (They also have hay and vegs as well to keep them going).

If the softly approach doesn't work, you can try the cold turkey one! Just to warn you, one of my older sows held out for about three weeks until she relented to eat pellets after her adoption by me. It can be a bit of a game of patience and persistence... but it will be worth it in terms of health!

Am glad you asked this I have been trying to get Edward on pellets for ages a few days ago I made Him go cold turkey I think he has eaten a few but today I had a bit of a panic attack about him not eating enough before and after his neuter as I am worried he may not recover well so I gave in and mixed some of his muesli in with it but once he has had the op and has recovered I will try him cold turkey again. I am just worried he will starve to death i told my husband of my fear and he took one look at Edward and laughed and said looking at him he didn't think there was much chance of that ! :D

Wow they really can hold out can't they! So I'm going to be strong and leave the muesli out. Thank you

Yes, my gang have no chance of fading away for a very long time.

Truffles started out life on muesli, but took to P@H nuggets the same day she came home to me and hasn't looked back. If you ask me, it's the ones brought up on Gerty Guinea, that are the worst to persuade, I've had a few piggies that hated nuggets on that stuff, wouldn't change for love nor money.

I started with nuggets when I got my 2 Guinea pigs a month ago and they wouldn't eat them so I also gave u and bought a bag of the muesli and mixed it in. Since then they also have just eaten the muesli and left the nuggets. Given I have an enormous bag of the nuggets I bought I switched to just the nuggets yesterday funnily enough so a well timed post for me thank you. Latest is that this morning Elsa was munching away at them. Not seen Ana yet but will monitor.

I also started on muesli because the super market didn't have them as we explored our town further we found the shop , Pets At Home(i go crazy in there , i think i spent forty pound there last week XD ) , they didn't like it at all so , yeah , cold turkey . . . after some very long minutes they gave up and ate the nuggets. But the next day they didn't eat the nuggets, as i found out when cleaning the cage they had a secret stash of hay hidden in the corner of the cottage hut (i really though they ate the hay :mal:).I gave it to them for a small treat because they ate some nuggets... very smart evil minions.Luckily, they go used to the nuggets and they eat them . . . finally

Well, I've been trying my 4 pigs out on nuggets since my first post on 27th Feb. They get a tiny amount of museli with them, but no more dry food until the nuggets are gone; usually a day or so. Actually, as long as a softy like me can hold out. I'm keeping at it. Soon there will be no museli left......

Muesli is the bain of my life! I have given in in the past as I've had pigs that will only eat museli. I am determined not to do this again, however I have a group of four and one of them came to me on muesli, I have had her a little while now but I am continuing to feed one portion museli and 3 portions nuggets, all the museli gets eaten by all four pigs :mal:, however I refuse to up them amount, if they refuse to eat nuggets they can just eat extra hay or be hungry :lol!:

I am going to stop the muesli as soon as my bag of wagg is finished I'm sure I'll have tantrums at that point but I refuse to buy any more :lol!:

Really helpful post, I'm in exactly the same position, have been mixing muesli and pellets for a week and don't think they've eaten even one pellet! Cold turkey it is :) I definitely would have given in and bought more muesli if it weren't for this post!:flag:

I must be the most luckiest owner... got a litter tray..they used it. Gave nuggets instead of museli they ate it. I'm def thankful!

My two ate different bits of the muesli so got away with it for a while because it looked like they were happily eating all of it! I soon realised that they just liked different bits of it! We've been on nuggets a while now and are quite happy with them!

Tried Harrington's (I think that's what it's called) first but they much prefer Asda's own :)
