Pellets

I read on a website that you should only give your guinea pigs pellets at meal times. Could people please tell me if they do this because I am not really sure. Like do you leave the bowl of pellets in there or only have it in there for a limited time?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Hi! I'm not sure exactly what everyone else does but i always leave the dry food in for them to have whenever they want. they are grazers so i was under the impression that they should have food to hand all day... :)
 
Mine always have dry food and I give them P@H nuggets. I recently tried them on the Tesco purple bag but they just threw the food all about the cage and hardly ate any. I kept this up for about a week (mixing in their usual nuggets as well) but they weren't having it. :)
 
I was told that dry food should always be available to them as they make several visits a day to the trough rather than set "meals" like many other pets. I do keep an eye on fruit and veg and only leave these in there for limited times.

I personally believe that dry food and hay should always be available.
 
Yep I make sure pellets are always available,with hay constantly,and veg twice daily.sx

I had always left the pellets in the cage before but when I saw that website I got a bit worried...

i always have a bowl of pellets in, and throw in some fruit or veg once a day too.
 
i give my piggies some food on a morning and their veggies (we dont give them loads, just enough to last them the day so they are hungry the next morning) this ensures we have no wasted food and the piggies are still very plump.
 
I think you should have pellets available at all times. After reading all the responses on this thread and also after checking up on a few websites I really think that that's what's best for our piggies. Just a suggestion, you do what you htink is best. :)
 
I have pellets available at all times as well as Hay and water :) vegies is given twice a day
