Me again! 👋🏻

My guinea pigs when we bought them were on the pets at home pellets, I have gradually switched them over to burgess excel mint pellets (still mixing with pets at home now) which I have now read is high in alfalfa.

I have read on the forum that many people feed Science Selective so I was going to purchase some on Amazon. However, I'm aware that guinea pigs have extremely sensitive stomachs and I wonder whether adding another pellet into their diet could upset them? Should I just mix it in with their pets at home/burgess concoction or should I wait a bit?

Thank you! ☺️7C4D0173-69A9-4915-A57F-5C41EFF45B6D.webp21B4A58C-1FC0-4604-942D-FF44D40A01DB.webp

Personally I would wait until they are fully on just one pellet before switching again more for the control side of things. Yes they can have sensitive stomachs but I don't think it's ever taken me more than a week to switch them to a new pellet

Thank you! I’ve only had them for just over a month so waited for them to settle in before switching over to Burgess which I started just under a week ago, I read online about about increasing 10% everyday so they’re due to be completely switched over within the next couple of days!
How long would you recommend to wait until I switch them again?
Thanks for the advice!

I’ve seen that lots of people have recommended the grain free version... both of these come up online so if someone could point me in the right direction as to which one it is that would be brilliant 😂

I am in the process of switching my lot over to Science Selective Grain Free from Harringtons which they have had for the last 3 years and Velvet would sell her soul for. It is because of Velvet I have had to switch them over. She passed a bladder stone and has a bladder full of sludge :yikes: so I am trying to convince her and the other 4 that Science Selective Grain Free is the way to go (a lot less calcium) so far they seem to agree as the grain free nuggets are disappearing quicker than the Harringtons. I am going to donate the rest of the Harringtons (most of a 10kg bag) to WHEEK & SQUEAK tomorrow.

I've switched mine from the normal science selective this year to the grain free. There's no reason you can't switch them straight away other than having several bags of leftover pellets. The downside with the grain free is it only comes in the 1.5kg bags and I have 4 piggies so used to buy the 10kg sacks of the normal version.

The top picture with the lighter purple packaging is grain free and the bottom the normal. Mine have a mixture of both at the moment as I’m trying to get them fully onto grain free but a couple of them aren’t keen on it....!
