Penis issues

Hi, can anyone advise me on what to do?.
My male guinea pig's penis is sticking out abit-not fully. I only noticed it a day ago, though I’m not sure how long it’s been like that. He’s had this issue a few times before, and in the past when I sorted it quickly, it went back to normal.
I’ve been applying organic coconut oil to help, and I gave him a warm bum bath yesterday. It’s not bleeding at all but it looks sore and feels kind of hard—probably from being exposed too long. It’s still a bit stuck out and not softening much.
He’s still bright, eating well, and weeing normally. I’d like to avoid a vet visit if possible as it’s a stressful hour-long journey for him and our usual exotic vet isn’t available for a while.
Is there anything else I can do to help soften or treat the exposed area? Anything that I can buy to help it get better quicker instead of coconut oil?.
Also, he’s not neutered—I’ve read that this problem can be more common in neutered boars.

Please do see a vet given his penis doesn’t seem to have retracted for at least a day as there may be something stuck which could become a problem if left. It’s not wine bond you want left unchecked for an extended amount of time

Hi, I have managed to take a photo of it now which is the one on left and the right was yesterday, what do you think?. I think it's improving? I'm not really sure tbh. I don't think I'll able to get a appointment today because it's late now.

I'm not a medical expert, but I did once have a boar who got a buildup of gunk round his willy which constricted it. I only found out because I happened to do his weekly checks and saw that his penis was out and swollen to the size of the end of my little finger almost. By the time I had gone and phoned the vet and checked him again, he had somehow managed to retract it. We went straight to the vet who removed a ring of yukky stuff from it.

If the penis gets so constricted that a boar cannot urinate, the urine builds up and that can be dangerous. My advice would be that if your boy's penis still doesn't look normally retracted, to get to the vet for a check. First I would also now check that he is urinating normally, and if he isn't, get him to a vet as soon as possible.

I think I did mention in my post that he is weeing etc fine and I did pull his skin back to see if anything was there but nothing (sounds horrible but it's the only way I can explain it). So far I cannot see anything and I think I will see how he goes over the weekend because from the two photos I've posted on here it does look like it's improving but it's not completely back in though.
I don't think it's swollen but then again I don't know what it looks like normally. If it's not back in by Monday then I will get him in to see a vet. I have been putting oil on it a few times a day. He really does not like going in the carrier as he's had bad experience and I just don't want to stress him out when it could be solved at home. Thankyou.

We would only ever recommend the penis is cleaned with water and a cloth or a water based baby wipe, not coconut oil.

I would be concerned that you say it is hardened and appears sore. Our advice is that this is not something to be left more than a day or two without being checked.

Oh okay because the vet nurse said coconut oil is a good thing to use apparently? And I've read online that olive oil can also be used?. Coconut oil is safe for guinea pigs that's why I assumed it was fine?.

An update –
I took him to the vet yesterday and thankfully, it was good news. The vet said it wasn’t too bad, although he did need help getting his penis back in. Fortunately, he won’t need surgery like many guinea pigs do.
The vet visit was definitely worth it as the vet managed to remove two things that were clearly blocking it. It was horrible having to hold him while he was in pain, but it was worth it in the end. I checked on him last night and again this morning, and everything looks back to normal.
All I need to do now is apply salt water and give him his painkillers once a day.
I bet he feels so relieved! I’m just so glad he didn’t need surgery as I was really dreading that.
