I registered for this website just a few minutes ago for the sole purpose of getting advice for my guinea pig. I have been saving money, and I am still saving, to take my guinea pig to the vet so please don't tell me what I already know to do. About a week ago I noticed his penis was protruding and it was about two inches long. I soaked him in warm water a couple of times and eventually realized that his penis wasn't actually that long, he just had a bunch of poop and semen caked onto it. I cleaned it off completely but it is still protruding and it bleeds every now and then and I don't know why! Then a couple of days ago I noticed a lump on his tummy. I had never noticed it before. Today, I looked at it again and saw that there was a brown/black hole in it. The lump looks as if it deflated a bit and the hole has a thick, white substance coming out. Someone please help! The vet that I took one of my other guinea pigs to doesn't seem to know much about guinea pigs and the closest exotic vet is 3 hours away. Like I said, I am saving to take him to a vet so if anyone has any helpful advice I would really appreciate it! I have spent so much time looking up what could be wrong with him and trying to find out things I can do to help him until he sees a vet and I am just having no luck!
Also, the day I noticed his penis, I took him out of his regular cage and put him on a towel and put the cage over it (so his bedding wouldn't stick to him). He is peeing, pooping, eating, drinking, and moving just fine.

(the pictures were taken before I gave him a bath so sorry about how dirty he is)

oh gosh i cant help thinking your boy must be in pain? the pictures didnt work for me but it sounds like it could be an abcess from what you have described, please can you get him to a vet asap?

Hello and welcome.

Your images don't seem to be working.

Does the white substance smell at all? What you are describing sounds like a burst cyst or abscess to me which will require veterinary treatment ASAP.

However, without seeing the photos I could be very wrong.

Here is some more information on abscesses. Does it sound similar to the symptoms your pig has? http://www.guinealynx.info/abscess.html

I was able to see the photos I copied the link and put them straight into the search engine, they are dreadful.

I am sorry, I can't help. I just wish you both the best of luck.

Theres the photos. This needs a vet visit OP asap IMHO. Even a non exotics vet should be able to give painkillers etc.

I've managed to find the pictures & copy them to this page. The 2 links needed www. before the link you'd posted

If you're in the UK and don't have money for a vet could you contact the PDSA or RSPCA to see if they can help or otherwise could you try to lend some money because this little boy is in need of help straightaway. It looks like he need at least painkillers & antibiotics to stop any infection. Do you have a rescue near you who you take him to for advice or help?

This is a reply to everyone who responded to my forum so please do not think I am ignoring each of you. Thank you for the advice. I am located in the US. I can't make an appointment for him today but by the end of the week I should have enough money to take him to the vet. I am going to purchase some antiseptic to clean it for now (I read to do so on http://www.guinealynx.info/abscess.html) but I have to wait to take him to see someone (for I have work and a family). Thank you again!

Until you can get him to a vet, you really need to keep the area as clean as possible.
You can help do this by making your own saline solution.
Mix 1 pint of cooled boiled water with a teaspoon of salt and gently bathe the wound using cotton wool or a cotton bud trying to leave the hole open.
Make sure you bed him on something soft that can not aggravate the wound such as fleeces and towels.
Please do not use any over the counter ointments and creams.
I appreciate that you have other commitments but please do try and see a vet ASAP as he will more than likely need a course of antibiotics and possible pain relief.
All the best x
