Any ideas what I can do to stop Penny biting at her stitches and incision. I just came in to check on her, and noticed her doing it, so I lifted her up (carefully!) to have a look and it looks very red and sore. Not bleeding though. She has the vets tonight so I will ask him, but in the mean time does anyone have any ideas of what I can do?
Thanks

Cut up a sock to act as a jacket, cut it so there is a big hole either end and cut 4 smaller holes for her legs to go through, a tubigrip thing would do the same, or bandage her up. x

Thanks. Will try it :) Will she not chew it off though?

She shouldn't do, there is somewhere on here a thread for a mites case where this has been done, i have tried to find it for you as it has pictures and everything but i cannot find it, or remember the members name......

xx

she is NOT happy with me :( and nothing will stay on her. She finds a way to get out of it as soon as I put her down

vetwrap? i think thats the name but hard to get/expensive i think. but just a suggestion in the unlikely case you have some. Its a bandage that kind of sticks to itself to hold itself in place, dont do too tight though obviously.

Perhaps a bandage then, wrapped around in different directions? x

tried both of these. I have blue vet wrap stuff for my dogs.
She pulled out of both of them. I didn't do them lose either. No matter how I did it, she managed to pull out of it. She wasn't happy with me at all, and she was getting quite stressed out. Hopefully it was just a one time thing. I'll just keep a very close eye on her until we go to the vets.

Just got back from taking Penny to the vets. He said that he is really pleased that she is getting back to her old self and that the nibbling on her stitches is normal because it is probably irritating her. He says that if she makes it worse then I have to take her back asap, but if not she has to go back to see him on 3rd August.
I've just got to keep an eye on that incision now. Make sure she's not making it go bad.

I don't know what to do.

I got home today and got Luna out for cuddles. She started squeaking, which then set Penny off. The same happened the other way around and Penny was looking into/sniffing at the cage.
I really think that they miss each other, and since I put Penny back in her cage she has been sniffing around (what I can guess is that she is trying to get to Luna maybe?).

Part of me is saying that, when I change the bedding out and do a full clean tomorrow, I should put them back in together. I know there will be the dominance thing (Penny has always been dominant piggy). Do you think that since Penny is no longer pregnant that she will try to assert her dominance more? I am just really worried about Penny's belly. If they got into a fight (I really hope not), I am worried that Penny will get seriously injured.
Also, when one piggy is trying to be dominant over another, do they tend to back the other into a corner and then they have a bit of a 'scuffle'. Also, they seem to lift their heads high when/if they are near each other. Is this dominant behaviour too?

So what do you think I should do? I can't bath Penny (for obvious reasons), so is there anything else I can do?

P.S. Sorry it's so long.

i'm no piggy expert but i would say to wait a bit longer for penny's incision to fully heal ? just incase they get into a fight ?
hope she's better today.
i have been following her progress
bless her :)

Please wait until the wound has knitted - it only takes about 10-14 days. They can spend time interacting through grids or a cage top if that is possible.

Please stage formal introductions on neutral ground (a run or the bathroom or kitchen floor). Putting them straight back together in their cage can cause problems.
Here are tips on intros: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=38562

I have re-done the girls cage. They're now in a 2x5. I split it into two so they can see/smell each other through the grids. I know 2.5x2 is a bit small but hopefully it'll just be for a couple of days. Penny's incision has mostly healed now, and she has the vets again on Friday for another follow up.
Penny and Luna are sniffing at each other through the bars, and were squeaking when the could see each other. I'll try to re-introduce them tomorrow on neutral ground to see how they do. Then when they're 're-bonded' they'll have a 2x5 to run around in instead of a 2x4 :))
I've read about introductions, but I get worried if one of them seems to be hurting the other. From experience, can anyone tell me how piggies react when being re-introduced? Like what is normal and what isn't. I've read the thread on here, but I'd like to know personal experiences.
Thank you :))

So Penny went to the vets again tonight. He said he his really happy with her progress and he took her stitches out, which she hated, but I think it affected me more than her, because I had to hold her while he did it.
I can give her a bath in 2 days :)) So Penny & Luna can be re-bonded properly, then :(|)

I'm glad Penny is doing well and that Penny and Luna will soon be reunited. xx>>>:(|)
