Hello,
So I recently got penny. She's going to the vet in a couple of days. Will they also be able to tell me if she is pregnant as it might be very early on? Does anyone know what could of caused this to happen to her feet?

http://www.guinealynx.info/pododermatitis.html I believe it is bumblefoot. Perhaps caused by her overgrown claws and maybe from living on a wire floor previously? The vet can clip her claws for you.

I don't know much about pregnancy, but the vet should be able to identify if she is pregnant or not depending on how early on it is.

Judging by the scratches on her nose, and the overall situation, it looks like she used to live in a bit of a rough environment. Please see a vet as soon as you possibly can, preferably sooner than later.

I have her booked in for two days time. She was from a backyard breeder who was selling them all off. What's bumblefoot? Will it heal? She has no clue what it is to be pat and just screams every time I touch her. I really feel sorry for her. I will do everything I can to make her happy and healthy.

I agree it could be Bumblefoot, most likely the result of the conditions she was living in but it can also be linked to circulatory issues. It's good that you are seeing the vet as she can have a thorough check over. If Bumblefoot is diagnosed I have had great success with a steroid cream called Zymox so you could mention that to the vet when you see them. There are other products available too.

I will absolutely mention that. Thankyou. It's going to be tough watching the vet handle her. She just screams when being touched and plays dead. I did however get her to eat kale out of my hand this morning. A BIG step. :)

It's good you got her to eat out of your hand!

It sounds like she also has scurvy, please feed her as much Vitamin C as possible. Bell pepper (not spicy, any colour), brocolli, courgette, and 1/8th cup guinea pig nuggets such as Burgess Excel will do great. Never ever feed rabbit food, and avoid muesli-type mixes. Kale, as you have already fed her, is also an excellent source of Vitamin C. There's a great food chart here, also lots of diet information: http://www.happycavy.com/what-can-guinea-pigs-eat/

That horrible backyard breeder should not be allowed to own guinea pigs, if any pet at all! :hb:

So glad that you took Penny on, she must be in agony with her poor swollen feet. With a bit of patience and TLC I'm sure you will have a happy healthy piggie on your hands.
I would like to keep the breeder in a cramped wire cage and see how he/she likes it!

I got her an earlier appointment at the vets early this morning. She has a weak immune system and defiantly bumblefoot. I got a medicated shampoo I have to wasth her feet in every two days. I really hope it works.

That's great you got an earlier appointment!

Vitamin C is required for a healthy immune system, so if it is weakened then that would make sense. In case you didn't know already, Scurvy is Vitamin C deficiency. :)

Hopefully the medicated shampoo will work; one of my older piggies developed a very severe case of bumblefoot 2 years ago; thankfully I have a great vet who performed surgery on him and the paw came out looking like that of a newborn baby pig, all smooth and pink. (I'd never seen a case of bumblefoot in all my years of owning guinea pigs, this had me worried to death!) If you can avoid surgery for her by using the shampoo, that would be great! Keep us posted.
