...What do you do with all the rubbish after you've cleaned them out? I compost a bit and put the odd bag in the dustbin, but now that mine are in a 6ft x 7ft shed, I'm struggling with all the rubbish. I did go to my local tip, but the guy I spoke to said there was nowhere for bags of newspaper/hay/straw to go? Surely that can't be right..?! So, what do other people do?

Morning primrose!

I must admit - I just bag it all up in black bags and chuck it in the bin ready to be collected every fortnight...I am sure some people compost the rubbish or put it in their brown/green bin but I don't. Looking forward to hearing how others get rid!

xx

I use Megazorb & hay for their bedding. The used Megazorb tends to go in the bin & the used hay in the compost bin with as much poo as can be easily separated. When spot cleaning, the poo usually goes straight on the flower beds. Why buy fertilizer when you get loads of this for free.

I have a shed too. The soiled hay goes in to the brown garden waste bin that is collected once a fortnight and the newspaper and shavings I have to tie in black bags and put i the normal green bin. Thankfully, there are extra green bin around here so we can use those too.

I just bag it up and put it down the rubbish chute but we live in a block of flats with one bin for everyone. So no worries about seperating it or anything.

Thanks for the replies. My problem is that with a 6 x 7 shed, with a double storey hutch inside, there is literally no way that it fits in our wheelie bin. I was just wondering what rescues etc do with their rubbish? I was surprised not to be able to take it to the tip. :(
I have contemplated just doing away with newspaper on the shed floor and bottom storey of the hutch and using hay straight on top of Lino...does anyone else so this?

I should probably add that they free range in the shed, so I'm using lots of newspaper and hay to cover the floor...

Have you got any neighbours or local allotments who would be grateful of the extra compostable material? I compost the heavier soiled bedding, the more compost space I have the more I try andfit in, but if we're struggling for room I will either put it in our household waste bin or sneak the extra waste in the bottom of the garden waste bin.x

Responses will differ based on the council requirements or if the tip is independently owned. Some will happily accept it in the general waste, while others want it separated out and put into general waste or garden waste. I leave 6/7 black bin bags out weekly for my lot and the bin men take it...but in the last place I lived if there were more than 5 bin bags they'd leave the excess and just take 5, then we'd have to drop the others down to the tip and put in the general waste.

Best thing to do is to just bag it all up in black bags and dump it in general waste...they can't really complain about that as it'll decompose a lot quicker than everything else that's being put in there!

if you live near a farm or anything they might be able to take it off your hands for composting, a few places in my area do that
