OK I have a one year old Sow that has had 2 litters. I just weaned the second on Wednesday. Thursday, I noticed she was drooling. Today, Friday, I took her to my vet. We discussed that she could have long molars so he went to look in her mouth and found a rather large piece of hay stuck there. When he removed it, it apparently stunk to high heaven, like it had been there for a while. She had a temp from infection probably from the hay. He prescribed Baytril - 0.5mL once a day for a week (and some probiotics as well). I gave her the first Baytril dosage this evening. Tonight I went to feed her some critical care because she wasn't eating her pellets, I Noticed SHE WAS BLEEDING out her bottom. I am going to call the vet tomorrow, but any of you have any idea what the dealio is? She's my son's pig and I would hate for her to die!

Thanks for any suggestions,
Erica & Pepper

Is it her wee that's blood or out of her actual bottom?

If it's wee could she have a urtinary tract infection?

I really am no expert and it would be worth trying to get an appointment sooner maybe? How does she seem in herself?

Ecajean, are you overseas? your post states 6.34 am and you're saying tonight... just curious.

I would take Peper to the vet as a matter of emergency. In the meantime, try to give her some fluid so she doesn't dehydrate, a little CC or mushed up pellets and you can try 0.2 ml calpol if she looks like she's in pain.

i hope you can figure out soon what her problem is...

To be honest I would get her to a vet, bleeding from the back end isn't normal and I would be extremely worried this has happned so soon after she has given birth.

Bleeding out of the bottom could be
a) urinary tract infection (UTI) or bladderstones
b) trouble with her womb
c) problems in her gut.

Best see a vet asap!
