I'm having trouble planning what veggies to feed when. I'm having trouble with a variety to so it would be nice to have a list of veggies regularly sold at the grocery store.

I give my boys cucumber and celery every day (recommended 2-3 times a week here) as well as ground elder leaves. I give carrot once a week (she says daily). She also seems to be saying that lettuce can be given daily, which I thought we should avoid. They don't like peppers or banana.

Any advice or comments, please? I'm a new piggie owner and want to do the best I can for them (as everyone here does! :) )

peppers are really good, they are so nutritional the red ones are great for vitamin C but are higher in sugar, so i alternate between red and green, also cherry tomato's you can give one of those daily, and mine absolutly loved it, I didnt think they would. The key thing with veggies is just keep trying them, I found my poppy didnt want peppers at first, but I just think it was somthing she wasnt used to so was unsure, but I just kept putting chopped pieces in with her daily veg and now she loves them, so give most things a good chance before deciding its a no, they dont want it, they might just be a little unsure.")

We eat a lot of peppers ourselves and I was hoping the chaps would like them, but I'll take your advice and try again, maybe scatter wee pieces about the floor of their run. I'll try tomatoes, too. Never thought of offering them! Thanks, PP! :)

Do you think I'm giving them too much celery and cucumber? They really love them!

I would cut back a little, you would probably be better to give a small carrot daily, and they love carrot , I actually buy normal sized ones and use a potato peeler, and just cut a couple of thin slices off and break that up, they really enjoy eating it like that, its almost like a leaf. Pak choy is really good, we can get that easily over here, not sure about the uk, its a leafy veg

I tried them with some wee pieces of orange pepper this morning and was delighted when Jujube took a piece. But he then spat it out! The best, organic, orange pepper! I left some pieces about the place. They fell on their cucumber, though. I'd thought that you had to be careful with carrot because of the vit A. They LOVE carrot! :)

Carrot is very high in vitamin A so should only be fed once or twice a week :)

Broccili (probably spelt wrong sorry!) Is also good a couple of times a week and this is nice and high in vitamin C. :)

With the OP being in the states she will have different seasonal veggies than us in the UK.

I give some lettuce everyday - NOT ICEBERG
There is a vast amount of different lettuce, (lots are sold in ready chopped bags)
Little gem, red gem, cos/romaine, radicchio, red chard, frisee, endives, lambs lettuce.
I used a pepper bell everyday, (divided between 9 Piggies)
Also spring greens because my rabbits love it, although it can be hit and miss with the Piggies.

Herbs are good to give too, coriander and basil, but not too much parsley.

Carrot tops are a favourite here.
Also lots of weeds and stuff from the garden. Blackberry, rasberry leaves, lemon balm, grasses, clovers, apple tree branches& the leaf, dandilions, cleavers.

Thank, ladies! :)

So it's only iceberg they shouldn't get? That's good! I'll get some of the other stuff when I'm out tomorrow!

They love broccoli and cauliflower stalks. I think I have a wee bit of broccoli flower in the veg baskets. They're in for a treat!

I don't put their veg in the run all at once, but chop it up in the morning and put it in a bowl in DS's room. Then anyone who visits them can give them a wee bit of veg, from their hand. I also scatter a few bits around before I leave. Trouble is, I don't know if they're getting to love me or if it's just 'cupboard love'! They certainly squeak and run to the front of the run when they hear the door opening! :)

well I was going on that chart and they recommened a baby carrot a day was ok, although I probably dont give mine that much, but they seem to love carrot!

my guinea pig's just a really picky eater when it comes to some things... and his hay hut would no longer exist if he weren't so picky about hay!:p

The bad thing is he thinks the vitaman c tablet I give every week is candy and I can't resist those eyes!:Ayociexp61:
