Hi all!

Can I ask, do any of you have piggies that stay completely outdoors the whole time? I'm just thinking ahead for the winter and wondering if anyone out there does keep their piggies outside. If so, what should I be doing to prepare the hutch for the winter? I have read about people covering their hutches with tarpaulin, etc. Are hutch huggers a good investment? Should I be using a cover at the moment for them?

Any thoughts appreciated - again!

Kelly

Hi Kelly, i left my guinea pigs outside all year and they where fine they dont really mind the weather that much as long as they have lots of hay in winter to snuggle up in and put them in shade in summer when its hot :) Charlotte xx

My boys are outside at the moment, but we're about to invest in the gear to make an indoor cage. The last set of pigs i had a few years ago used to live outside in the winter and they were ok, but i feel a bit guilty, if it's cold for me it must be freezing for them!

This is my first year keeping piggies...they are outdoors at the moment with a hutch hugger over the hutch.I've bought a pigloo but smudge would rather sleep under it rather than in it.
I'm a bit worried about bonfire night so plan to keep them in that night in the big cat carrier that i have. I don't want my babies frightened to death with all the noise. As for the winter I think if it gets really cold I'll bring the hutch indoors as I really don't fancy going out at 7am to clean the hutch out in the dark cold winters mornings.

Kell whatever you decide to do just remember not to bring in the piggies to a heated house and then take them back out to a cold day or night... the sudden changes in temp is not good for them...:)

I think they need to be kept at about 19 degrees or something like that? Someone correct me if i am wrong please!
