Hi guys.

On 17 Feb noticed my piggie Lily was having issues breathing (noisy breathing, more effort than usual put into breathing) I took her to the vets and she was prescribed Baytril and metacam. She wasn't improving so on 26 Feb I took her to CJ Hall exotics. Vet was great and prescribed new antibiotics and a diuretic. He did also notice a lump on her armpit and suggested a biopsy and an x-ray, however this was very expensive and he said would be a secondary measure.

She was on the new meds two weeks and whilst her breathing didn't fully improve she perked right up and was her usual self, breathing probably 90% back to normal. It's almost a week now since she stopped taking them and her breathing is almost worse than before and today she's acting very withdrawn, puffed up and agitated.

I rung CJ Hall this morning and the vet advised keeping her on the diruetic for a week and seeing how she goes. Or bringing her in on Friday (quite a while away) for an investigation - this would obv be the original thing I couldn't afford but if needed I could put on my credit card. I'm worried about leaving her that long, as she is now very withdrawn. She's still eating a bit.

I have some leftover metacam which I am giving her a bit of, I have some Baytril (which she was first prescribed) should I give her that in the interim/ better than nothing? Should I ask the vets for an emergency appointment, suck it up and pay the £400? Or go to another vets? Just a bit worried about her going rapidly downhill. I am of course prepared to pay the money but just unsure what the best course of action is and feeling a little lost. Any advice would be so appreciated. Thank you x

It's tricky.
Obviously we can't diagnose over the internet, but if it were me I would go back ot the vet.
If she really perked up on the new antibiotics and diuretic then she may just need a longer course of that to fully wipe out the infection.
It sounds like she was 90% better, but the original infection has resurfaced.

In the short term I would ask for a longer course of treatment and take it from there.
Given how quickly guinea pigs can go downhill I would opt for seeing the vet again sooner rather than later.
