Persistent Uri - Thoughts And Healing Vibes Please

I weighed him at about 11am, which is about the same time as I weigh him most days, before giving them their morning veggies. Maybe he has a better appetite since stopping the Sulfatrim on Friday.
Glad to hear that you have had success with the Metronidazole, @furryfriends (TEAS) , hope we do too!

It worked a miracle with a very poorly piggy who had severe diarrhoea...so bad that it was just awful smelly water running from him. He was so weak that he couldn't even lift his head. I took him to Simon to be put to sleep, but Simon suggested we try with Metronidazole first. I was very unsure as didn't want to prolong his suffering, but it worked!

Wow, that was some result! Zebedee isn't as poorly as that fortunately, his poos are a bit smaller and drier than usual, but otherwise normal. I'm hoping that once the Metronidazole has done its job, he will be able to get rid of the gas in his tummy without any major intervention on my part - but only time will tell on that.

A full fecal analysis would find things like E Coli, yeast overgrowth etc. When I had my piggy tested after she had bloaty episodes it showed she had something called Saccharomyces which could be treated with an anti fungal.
I was just trying to decide whether to give Zebedee Fibreplex, and looked to see what is in it... It has as a probiotic, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, which is basically yeast like we use for baking. So I guess @Poppy'sMum that your piggie had a yeast overgrowth causing her issues ... Perhaps my Zeb has that too, in which case giving Fibreplex is presumably the opposite of helpful! If the current course of Metronidazole doesn't help, the next step I guess will be getting fecal analysis done to check it out properly.

A quick update on Zebedee as I had him at the vets today... Mostly good news, thankfully!

He has been putting on weight since he stopped the Sulfatrim and started the Metronidazole, a week ago yesterday. He has gained approx 200g and is now 1050g. He also seems to have a good apetite, he munched his way through a piece of pepper and a piece of Cauliflower leaf whilst on the vet's table! (And produced evidence at the other end too!) The only thing is that all the weight seems to be in the tummy area ( which is a bit bigger than it was), he doesn't seem yet to have put any flesh back on his bones. He was x-rayed, and it appears that the Metronidazole has done the trick, as it did with your very poorly piggy @furryfriends (TEAS) , as his tummy is now mostly full of food, not gas - I would estimate less than 20% was gas.

The reason I took him to the vet for an emergency appointment though (today being Sunday) was that he has been moving around less this week, and yesterday seemed to have stopped using one of his rear legs, and was dragging it today. The vet thinks probably the extra weight in his abdomen is pressing on the nerve. There doesn't seem to be a lot we can do about it at present except to stop him dragging it, because otherwise the top of his foot will get sore. What it really needs is to get the weight out of his tummy I guess, but I don't know how to do that. His stomach wall muscles have presumably been stretched and weakened by being distended for so long with the gas, so his stomach can hold much more food than a guinea pig normally would. Is there any way of getting the muscles working again, eg massage? Should I reduce or stop the syringe feeding?

Any advice that would help me get Zeb comfortable and strong again would be much appreciated

Pleased to hear Zeb is on the road to recovery not sure how to get his tummy muscles strong again though.
