Hi :)

Please can some one advise me about these little beauties, I've fallen in love with peruvian's :smitten: and would like to know more about them. I have read that not as easy going as some pigs, is this true? I also read they are more likely to bite and kick? and less likely to want cuddles?

mine is much more highly strung than my other pigs, but he was in a bad way when i got him.

h is hyperactive, scatty, very crazy, he hates his hair brushed even though he needs it every day, and his favourite game is chewing my face, if he cant manage that then he chews whatever he can reach ::) but he is the most handsome piggy ever, and he knows it ::)

perus are the pretty boys of the guinea pig world in my opinion

Hi Vikki,

I can only go by my own experiences. I have a Peruvian cross who was high maintenance as a younger pig didn't like being touched, stroked and very anti social. But overtime Twinkle has gotten better and he lets you stroke him now and is now slowly gaining your trust to pick him up.

He has never kicked or bitten any of us but I just think their coats mean it is uncomfortable for them to be picked up. Of course they probably aren't all like this I go by the rule they are all different, just like us cavy slaves! :D

thanks for the replys. I'm so in love with peru's :smitten: any idea if they would make a good friend for a abby x ?

Twinkle's cage mate was an Aby and they fell out but both our dominate. I would say it's more about the personality then the breeds that go together. Hope you get some Peru's they are stunning pigs and harder to groom etc but as long as you are prepared for that then go for it. :)

I am hoping to get one for company for my mums pig toffee, she is a lone pig currently, mum said I can pick the next pig, so I chose a peru :smitten: I'm used to grooming rabbits as all mine are long haired buns ;D

i cant advise on pairing with abbys either as my peru is proving difficult to pair, so he is having to be neutered to go with a girl when he has grown enough.

from what ive seen though abbys are dominant too (well my housemates abby is) so a peru who is usually stroppy and a dominant abby i think would clash

a good pair usually has a dominant and a submissive pig, so it all depends on their personalities
