as I'm well known for been the crazy rabbit lady in my area I'm helping out at an RSPCA event call pet action day, I'm just having a stall for rabbit and guinea pigs and just really learning people and making awareness to the public about understanding there rabbits and guinea pigs, but also giving them knowlodge of diet, health, exercise, and the correct accommodation that is needed.

so for accomoodation we are having a 6ft hutch and run combo made to show what a real hutch is.

for diet excel is offering us freel samples of food. I'm going to buy some correct excel hay bags. and a leaflet on all the good veggies and wich one have got plenty of vit C in them

but for health i was thinking vaccinations and illness maybe i will need to make some booklets for that. and exercise unknown yet.

so have i missed anythink out specially for the guinea pig side of it as i feel i have more knowlodge of rabbit have i missed anythink major of the guinea pig side of it?

Perhaps having sample of vegs and fruits there to show folks would be good, but that obviously involves a cost to do. Like in a basket or something that looks really tempting even for a human.

Sounds like you have everything much covered really, but bang the pro-rescue drum and alert people that sometimes petstores can mis-sex piggies which can lead unexpected births! rolleyes

Have a great day!

What your doin is great and i hope everything goes well!

oh i love the sound of the fruit and veggies hehe i dont mind cause i could always take them home for my 11 bunnies to eat, i was also thinking i big say on the no guinea pig and rabbit together but i cant find much on the internet to do with that

For the No to piggies and buns together:

- different nutritional needs
- dangerous hind legs could internally injure the guinea pig
- different language
- bullying from the rabbit towards the piggy in regards to who can have the food, water, housing, etc.

Apart from that, looks like you've covered most of it. There is a list in the sticky's regarding safe and unsafe foods/plants

Also, if you could give a size indication of a baby piggy to an adult piggy.....because the hutches/cages they are in are not always suitable and the pet shops are selling hamster cages for a guinea pig, which is of course way to small once the pig has matured!

Hope that helps.

thanks for that i just couldnt remember them all i thought also if either the guinea pig or the rabbit eats either one of there poos then it be quite toxic for either the pig or rabbt :{ haha I'm all confused now. accomodation for guinea what you say a 4 ft long by 2 ft deep is big enough for one and to keep a pair 5ft long by 2ft deep? with access to a run available?

Minimum hutch requirements for a single piggy or a pair of piggies is 4ft x 2ft (bigger is better) with access to a run on nice days. You could point out that piggies are social animals & should be kept in pairs (like buns) obviously there are exceptions to this (as i know :)))

Yeah I've heard rabbits can easily bully piggys and have been known to attack and kill them. Some people say smaller breeds of rabbit aren't bad together but there are different opinions about this.
