Hello! I don't know if is right here in this category
I would like reassurance. I'm in Scotland and I have to stay away for 15 days. I have no one who can come home for my little piggies, so I turned to a lady who is a pet sitter. She keep the cage of the piggies inside a timber shed, with hay and blankets. But my pigs have always been at home in the warm and I'm afraid of the temperature change. do you think I can be calm? I have read somewhere that they can be sick and i'm really worried. sorry if I'm wrong to write but I do not speak English well yet :)

your english is fine and i think u can be calm but dont take my word

There is a very cold forecast for this weekend. Is the shed heated? Where in Scotland are you?

I'm in Lanarkshire.
It's not heated, i know that is
insulated, but during the day she leave the door of the shed open sometimes...

If it was me I wouldn’t be happy with that. Its too cold for guinea pigs to be outside at the moment. If it was a heated shed then it might have been ok.

I don't have any other choice. The other pet sitter have the cage outside, without a shed

Oh no.Thats a shame your in this predicament.Have you looked on google for any other pet sitters in your area?

Yes i have searched for days :flag: but everyone leave the cage outside in the garden, so I prefer this solution with the shed... it was the best :(

can't you pay some friend who comes to your home? if it is so cold there is a risk to waste money and find your piggies dead or severely ill when you come back home...
Another possibility is to ask a vet... they can know some good pet sitter or you can leave the piggies at the clinic.

Your English sounds fine to me and please try not to worry. You have made the best decision based on what’s available to you. Just a thought.. but could the pet sitter put a little heater in the shed especially as there is a cold spell on it’s way?I’m sure he/she wouldn’t want your piggies to be cold whilst in their care.
You can also buy some little heated pads, maybe it’s worth buying one/two of these & asking pet sitter to heat them up. All my piggies have been indoor piggies but I’ll tag in @Betsy as she’s much more experienced with keeping outdoor piggies warm & cozy.
Hope this helps x

How about you put them in 2 days early. Then go back to see how they are doing. However your not In a position to leave, them with anyone else. If there is mountains of hay there will burrow to keep warm. Or is it possible for you to pay extra for them too stay.
Enjoy Spain.

I keep my 5 piggies outside like @Hoppity.K has said. They have MOUNTAINS of hay in the hutch under which they can cuddle and keep warm for this very cold spell of Siberian Winter that has been predicted this week, I have just shut off the bottom tier of the hutch to them so the can keep extra warm at the top. They have 4 snugglesafes between them and a selection of snuggle sacks, snuggle tunnels and fluffy hooded beds. There is also a thermal cover and a hutch hugger over the hutch and a blanket over the front to keep out the frost and the worst of the cold.

Thank's to all. Unfortunately this was the only choice I had. She's a good pet sitter, she told me that she also puts heating pads for them. They have a lot of hay and blankets in the cage, inside the shed. I hope everything goes well...

If it was me I'd ask that they get as much extra warmth as she is able. After all she doesn't want them to come to any harm or anything while in her care anyway. Mine bed themselves in fleece blankets too that done cost too much and when you put your hand where they have been.. it's like your own bed very warm and cosy do they do give off their own heat to get warm. The issue here is you have no other option and at least if she knows your a little unsure and worried she should look in on them a bit more than normal to check they are ok. Sometimes we can only do our best ... I was also in the same predicament but my neighbour came to the rescue last min and had them so I just had to get another cage. I'm sure they will be ok

Perhaps you can ask her to make sure she doesn't leave the shed door open during the day while they are there to help protect them from the elements. I wish I were close by to help out

I know that she leaves the door open to let in some sun... I just hope everything goes well :)
