Pet insurance for guinea pigs?

It's a tricky one. Generally the excess on these policies is about £50 which is usually more than most vet bills unless it's something really serious.

We didn't get insurance and then Biscuit got sick again and again. Actually, it wouldn't have covered many of his bills because there were lots of smaller bills.

Sorry that's not much help.

I see what your saying. Is it worth getting insurance? But then again if they had something seriously wrong with them, I wouldn't be able to afford to pay a large amount of money for say an operation.

I personally, and i've said this in many threads before on the same theme, i don't feel it's worth it.
I'd much rather put a few pounds in a bank account every now and then, when i can, avoid getting into debt, and avoid ever getting the annoyance of never using it, better the money in my pocket than theres !

Threads that I linked to have the story of my £2000 vets bill

If it can be insured, I have it! I am a big believer in insurance, maybe because in my lengthy life (I'm 60) I've had so many things happen where being able to claim on insurance was a huge relief.

Unfortunately, there is no pet insurance in Australia except for dogs and cats - I've done a thorough search and still search from time to time in case things change.

When I got my first piggy, therefore, I resorted to setting up my own insurance - i.e. a savings account I pay a premium into every payday. When my 2nd piggy arrved and turned out to be a dental boy having to have treatment every month or so, my "insurance" plan was needed. I continue to pay into it so that even with Peanut Butter's treatments I am still ahead in case something major comes up.

That's definitely a more sensible plan. This will also help pay for those lower bills too.
