Would you recommend pet insurance for piggies and if so what company would you recommend? Every company I've Googled just seems to do cat and dog insurance.

:agr: I took out insurance for my boys for the first year. It was around £26-£28 (discounted) for both for the maximum cover. You have to read the small print as, if I remember correctly, they don’t cover existing conditions. The level of cover is also different.

I didn’t renew for the second year. Mainly because I was paying out for ‘nothing’ and also the cost went up by about £10. It made more sense to put the money away. I essentially paid £312 with nothing in return. Thankfully my piggies weren’t too ill in that time period though.

I just put money aside for a vet fund so it’s always available when needed.
Bonus is I get the interest on it - even though that’s a bit pathetic at the moment

I did look into pet insurance for the piggies but have found it better value (taking into account the exclusions and excesses) to simply put an amount aside in a savings account for the piggies.

I have had Gibson (and Higgins) insured with Exotic Direct since I got him just over 5 years ago, and Keith (7 months) is with the, too.

If I could trust myself to save the money and not use it on other emergencies, I would! Thankfully I've never had to claim, though each time I have taken them in for checks etc. I have let the insurers know, I've just not claimed because the excess has been higher than the treatment (my excess is £65). The insurers have not marked anything as pre-existing, so the cover is still full..
