Not sure if I should be starting a new thread, or adding this to the one about Bandit’s cystitis (Sterile Cystitis Questions)

Anyway, our vets have suggested using a Pet Remedy diffuser to help her be calm. I’ve had a look at the website and I’m not convinced; the essential oils in it (valerian, vetivert, clary sage, basil) don’t seem very piggyish to me.

Does anyone have any experience of using it?

I love it, but I'm not sure if my piggies notice it. Valerian should have a calming effect. It's very pleasant and soothing (for me)

Thank you guys 🤗 I think I’m gonna buy a smallish spray to see what we think. Personally, I don’t like valerian in herb teas 🤢 or the smell of clary sage. And I don’t like to use strong scents (laundry soap, perfume, hand cream, etc) around the piggies.

What was the outcome? Just wondering if it was worth it. Came across it recently and wondered what the actual result is. Any help with travelling etc?

I have been recommended this several times over the years by vets and thought it was likely to be a bit of a con to be honest. I tried it recently as we are having a lot of building work going on over the road from us and it's been very loud and the house has been vibrating at times. The plug ins do seem work, not so convinced with the spray to be honest but will use it inside the cover of the travel case for vet trips as we have it. I bought a box set containing the plug in and spray when it was on offer on viovet. The smell is not strong, it's quite pleasant - herbal and relaxing. I have been falling asleep some afternoons when sitting with the piggies, afternoon naps are unheard of for me normally. Last evening was the big test, the school had their firework night, very loud commercial fireworks that explode above our roof every year and terrify the piggies who dive for cover and are stressed for ages after it all stops. Last night not a whisker was twitched, they just ignored them. Could be coincidence of course but ......?

I guessed it would be sort of Feliway type of product, just for wider range of species. I remember when it first came out and have heard vets recommend it. Even heard of it being recommended during bonding/sow season times. But if nothing else at least you get good sleep too

I've just had a reread of the leaflet and studied it in a bit more depth rather than scan reading to see what to do for guinea pigs. It says it 'helps all animals. Clinically proven to help calm and develop emotional wellbeing'. It does say it can be used during bonding, the picture shows two rabbits. They have done a number of clinical trials on all types of animals, to see results and details of trials go to petrememdy.co.uk/clinical-trials/
You are supposed to use the plug ins switched on all the time but I don't, my boys aren't that stressed. I just use them in particularly noisy times or when going to the vet I spray the cover of the carrier. I have a fleece cover I made that pulls over the outside of the carrier. I will be switching the the plug ins on (one either side of the room) this evening just before dark so they are warming up by the time the fireworks start.
