We have a 'good' local pet shop. They don't have many animals and they seem well cared for. I do shop there for hay etc because I like to support a small, local shop.

We went in today and they have 2 very cute (well they all are really!) guineas pigs, but they've been there at least 2 months! I don't ever remember seeing animals in there for so long! I don't often see the same animal twice.

I didn't dare ask the sex, incase they are girls and we 'could in theory' have them! I think they are boys because they are pretty big! Infact the cage is looking small for them now. I so want to get them and give them some room to move and love!

My question is, what happens to pets that can't be sold? I'm hoping they might go back to the breeders. I don't think anyone would want these now (except me of course!) they have lost their cuteness now they are bigger. I would have expected them to go over the summer holidays when families often buy pets.

Often they do go back to breeders but by taking them on it is only encouraging people to breed and cycle goes on with rescues struggling to accommodate them all. Plenty in rescue needing forever homes x

I almost don't want to know. Since they're such a small outfit, maybe you can ask the owners of the petshop? Whether they'll be honest with you or not is another issue.

I really don't think we could have them, I've gone from 2 piggies to 5 in the last 4 months! Had a boar to neuter so it's not been cheap!

I could ask, I know her reasonably well. I don't want know incase I don't like the answer and I need to take them home!
