Hi There

I know its naughty but i have been going into a small independant family run pet shop in skegness and for the past few months there has been a ginger male in a small tank living on his own :( I dont know why no body had taken him, they usually sell their animals very quickly. It makes me so sad seeing him sit there on saw dust with a bit of hay and a dry food dish, no toys, comany or proper space to run around.

Its playing on my mind that i cant take him, we have a group of 3 a nueutered boar and 2 girls so cant put him with them and just do not have the space in our room to put another cage, we are living with my mother in law who has strictly said no more pets and went mad when we rescused our last little girl Toffee.

We are hoping to move into out own place again at the end of this year, and if we were already in our own place we would have him now paired up woth a spayed female from a rescue, i just dont know what to do...... he also looks as though he is losing some fur on his hind leg!

Here is a picture for you:

Oh poor baby. How about asking around with your friends and see if anybody could take him?

I'm not from there, we have a caravan there which we stay in so its not like its local to any of my friends or relatives.

You buy him and you leave money in the pocket of the shop and a space for them to fill with another unfortunate guinea pig.

I can't understand how people think buying from such places is "saving" the animal, it just subjects another and another to the same kind of fate.

NOT buying from such places is what we all need to do. No profit from keeping/selling animals means pet shops will no longer stock them. They are a business, at the end of the day profit is what they exsist for.

I have not posted this thread for it to result in an argument and pet shop debate!

hes different to the one in there 3 weeks ago.... there was a sand and white dutch cross last time i looked

It is sad they have piggies alone. They should have them with a friend and sell them together.

Which pet shop are you referring to? Money savers, Pet line, digby's, animal kingdom? There are so many pet shops for such a small town lol. This is definately the same one that has been in pet line for about 3 maybe 4 months, unless they had another one in there when you were there?

I wasn't debating nor trying to create an arguement. You posted a thread on a public forum on which I am a member and I offered my opinion on the matter, which I am totally entitled to do. I don't believe I deserve a flaming for doing so.

I agree this is what happen's but small group's boycotting pet store's that dont know its happening is not going to change anything, neither is moaning on here, if people hate it so much then something bigger need's to be done

Sorry:x and he is very cute, i see a pet store in skeggy that were selling a 80/100 cage with a rabbit for £55 that couldn't even stand up in it poor thing
they sell terrapins and gheckos and parrots too

He did have a friend orriginally but someone obviously took him and left little fudgy wudgy (that is my nickname for him)

I agree, and posted on a recent PAH thread on here stating the same. We have to let pet shops know WHY we aren't prepared to buy from them; so they can either up their game or stop selling animals. And ALSO need to educate the general public as to why some pet shops are not good places to buy or get advise on caring for animals. :)

Yes you are entitled, i didn't mean to flam you but i just didn't want everyone joining in and then it just turns to a pet shop debate rather than a thread about the piggie. I feel exactly the same as you do on the pet shop situation. They make me so angry! Sorry for any crossed wires.

I am up for being more active in fighting the petstore's, maybe TGPF member's could send a notification of boycotting to P@H and other pet store's or have leaflet's poster's "say no to pet shop piggie's" rabbit and hamster forum's too maybe, need publicity and hit them all at once and make it big, like a date everyone goes to campaign outside a local petstore oooh i is liking this lol

I would deffo be up for this if i thought it would actually make any difference atall! Sadly though i don't think it will, it still wouldn't stop backyard breeders from imbreeding and selling unwell animals.

It could be he is alone because someone had a pair of boys, lost one & needed a friend quickly for the remaining piggy. I've been in that position myself, & not all rescues have single piggies available as they tend to pair them themselves, or if they offer boar dating not everyone is aware of this. So Fudgy Wudgy is probably alone through no fault of his own, maybe just circumstance.

And yes he is rather cute rolleyes

Aww poor little guy. He looks quite sad/bored. I'd be tempted to ask the shop just to put a little pigloo in there for him.

I always feel sorry for them when I see them in shops.

When I bought my first two and had no idea about pet shops and how they ran (just less than a year ago) I bought my two boys and luckily the shop never got guinea pigs again. Mine were the last two.
So glad I got them too. x)
