Yesterday i bought a pet shop piggie. I was broody for a baby piggie, my last 5 have all been older rescues.

She is so cute. Now everyone can be mad at me ")

noone will be mad at you... i have a pet shop piggie too and there will be others on here who do as well. don't waste energy beating yourself up just go love your piggies, :))x)x)

what did you call it? can we see a pic or two ?:)

awww my older boars are pet shop ones and i'm getting to babies on monday from a rescue...don't feel akward...you have rehomed ones and i bet you love them to pieces. x

aww congrats and i'm sure she's lovely. Put some pics up of her, will you? :))

I only brought a pet shop piggie a couple of weeks ago. Infact all my piggie's i've had have been pet shop ones. I've not had a rescue one before because i've not really thought about it. And i won't be able to get a resue piggie now because my dad said these are the last two piggies i will be allowed to have. Well, he's always said that but then i beg and beg and he lets me have another one :pxx>>>

Aw - can't wait to see the pictures.

I have 2 pet shop piggies - when I looked I couldn't get any rescue piggies near me so I bought them from a pet shop as I didn't want to wait as it could have been a long time...and at the end of the day your still giving an animal a loving home and keeping them away from children who will get bored with them.

Aww bless, dont feel bad and know that no one will judge you on here. Got to add though that i dont like the 'i wanted a baby one' attitude.. that is one of the reasons many piggies end up in rescue when they get bigger. Ive never had a petshop piggie, mine have all been rescues.. Letto my last boar was the nearest ive had to a petshop pig.. He was from the Pets at home adoption centre.

Get posting some piccies for us.

My first piggy George was a pet shop piggy, and my second came from a breeder :red. I bought George as a lone piggy, but soon realised he needed a friend. Spoke to a few people and they told me I needed to get a 4-5 week old boar to be his companion, any older, so they said, and I would have been asking for trouble?!?

So I travelled all the way to Rochester for Alfie.

I wouldn't change either of them for the world, but I will DEFINATELY be visiting my local rescue when the time comes again ( not for MANY years yet I hope:)))

mine was a pet shop piggie my first i am not angry at all

good luck with you piggie

I had two pet shop piggies, I now only have one, but I love him to bits. My other piggie is from a breeder so yeah . . . I would definately go to a rescue next time though, but Spike was lonely and needed a baby piggie to go with him, so a breeder was the easiest option.

Anyways post pictures soon! :)

Heya, i got all 4 of mine before i came on here. they're all pet shop piggies as i never knew someone could give up their piggies and rescues existed for piggies.my ignorence, my piggie's bliss. x

the only reason I'm mad at you is because you don't have pictures. :))

Don't worry, my pigs came from Meijers! No one is going to judge you because of where your pigs came from! :)

With regards to my piggie ending up in a rescue because 'i wanted a baby' is not the case at all.
I love all my piggies and have rehomed 5 older piggies. I have no intention of giving her up when she grows up!

I'm afraid thats the best pic i have at the moment...

I also bought her to be a companion for a blind piggie i am hoping to rehome from Pets at Home but thats another thread entirley..

Oh and she doesnt have a name yet... I'm considering calling her Sweetpea..

awww very cute.all piggies need love and if silly pet stores were not allowed to sell live animals it would be better but at least this one wont end up in the rescue system

Jelly belly - I wasnt suggesting you would dump your piggies, i just said that that is what many people do when they're pigs are no longer babies.

I dont see a problem as at the end of the day where ever you get your pig from they all need nice loving homes. My 2 boys were bought and i love them to pieces and yesterday i rescued my first 2 girls and i already love them lots.

All guinea pigs need a loving and caring home no matter where they come from, or end up coming from. They don't have any control over that.

Enjoy your new piggie ... I think Sweetpea is a lovely name.

Don't worry about it!
This forum is pro-rescue, but none of the users seem to be judgemental enough to hold a pet shop pig against you!

One of my boys was from a pet shop, too.
My husband went to get some supplies, and they told him about a male guinea pig they had living alone in the dark store-room upstairs, because they only had the one boy, and not enough space to put him in the shop downstairs.
I came home to find him sat with the little guy in his arms, looking guilty, saying "He was all alone in the dark! I couldn't just leave him there!"

So I guess it feels more like he was "rescued" from the pet shop!
