i recently bought a pig for my daughter. today we found lice on her. the pet shop sold her to us and now it is down to us to sort it which we will. but I'm a bit miffed that they basicly said it was down to us to sort it. i feel they should at least pay for us to clear the lice or have made sure she was clear before they sold her. what would you do?
Pet shop pigs often have lice and much worse besides. Doubt you will get payment out of them. When you say lice you do mean white wriggly things that can be seen? If so get Lice and Easy from Gorgeous guineas
www.gorgeousguineas.com Chrissie, who runs it can advise if you're not sure, but it's the only safe thing in my experience to use on pigs. Are you considering getting the pig a friend? Once shes healthy of course
the local council issue the license for the pet shops, and are associated with vets who will inspect any premises a complaints come in about. I would definately complain to your local council, for the benefit of other animals in the shop as well as a refund of your vets fees.
hmmmmm....i hope you get rid of the lice. my piggies have mites that i needed to take them to the vet. it cost my parents 96 australian dollars...but it was worthi t for my babies... i would complain about the lice...
I would get rid of the lice and tell the shop where you got her from.
My personal thought is that pet shops should take better care of the animals in there shops and check them out, because last year I got a guinea pig and she had a large lump under her neck and I went to the vet and she past away after two weeks of getting her.
I was very upset because she was my first guinea pig and I loved her SO much and I still do love her. Her name was Tessa.

Hi my two girl Guineas had lice when I got them from P@H :tickedoff: , did not find out until 4 days after getting them, as let them settle into there new home before checking them out. Used lice-n-easy shampoo from gorgeousquineas great stuff cleared them of lice in one shampoo but did it again one week later to make sure.
i bought my guinea pig lily 3 weeks ago and she has a lung infection they said they would pay vets bills for 4 weeks after purchase but are now trying to get out of it I'm going to contact trading standards i would advise you to do so also.
As much as I can't atand Pets at Home I didn't have any issue getting my bills paid for. My boys had mites and fungal infection and finally admitted they were only out together the day they were sold. They had massive behavouire issue and constantly fought. P@H paid my vet bill for mite treatment, fungal infection and for them to be neautered. They also gave me another cage to seperate the boys and a bag of food. they never were seperated and now love the fact the can spend time with the girls hehe!
I wouldn't give up your fiight. For your piggie to be ill it must have been like that before they sold you it. Fight all the way! I am more than happy to pay vets bills when an animal falls ill in my care, but to sell sick animals disgusts me. xx
Good luck with chasing the shop unfortunately the way to 'get to them' is via Trading Standards as this is under the Sale of goods act and them selling you something not 'fit for purpose' it would be easier to go down that route :
Good luck x
I would call and complain!Thats not right if they wanna sell a guinea pig they should sell it healthy!Same happen to me i brought my little Cali home and we found out she had mites. My mom called and complained to the store we bought her in.It was a teenager who answered the phone. The girl said "mites are vitamin A for guinea pigs".Isn't that sooo stupid to say! :tickedoff:.But we got some special shampoo for mites and washed them all off. But call the pet store you bought her from and complain.Or just go out and buy some medicated shampoo..Hope you get them off of her :smitten: :smitten:
