This is really two part question

Part 1

Imagine you are buying an animal from a pet shop and the employee is advising you about the animal, you've not researched the animal. During this a person walks up and states that everything the pet shop employee has told you is wrong. Who do you believe?

Part 2

Imagine your buying hay in a pet shop and you over hear the employee advising someone that you should never keep two guinea pigs together as they'll fight. Do you speak up or not?

This could be a really good debate on the forum. Two very interesting questions. For the purpose of this debate we will leave out all the questions arising from purchasing from pet shops

Part 1 - What kind of person am I that doesn't research the animal I am going to purchase? A bit silly really as we all know that keeping any animal involves a cost. Can we afford this? Have we the space? to name but a few. But to the crux of the matter - who do we believe? I suppose being a person who hasn't researched the needs of the animal we would believe the person who makes it easier to own that pet.

Part 2 - This is easier to answer. We would end up having a debate with the employee and the buyer using the tools at our disposal and point them towards the forum for advice.

I have told people in pet shops that the advice given is wrong and given proper advice (nicely) and recommended the forum.I think people should know what they are taking on.I start by stating I have guinea pigs and have kept them for a while now then go from there.

Well done @madguinealady, I've wanted to do this a couple of times but have not been able to pluck up the courage.

When I took on my first two girls I knew the girl in there and she bred guinea pigs so I asked her.I would believe someone impartial that already keeps them.I am a cynic so would automatically think the pet shop was biased.

Part 1:
Me personally: if I really want the animal I'm asking about, and receive such conflicting advice, I hop onto Google on my phone and check whose facts are correct.
If something that either person has told me makes me unsure about buying the animal, I realise I need to do more research and rather go home and learn more before going back to purchase said animal.

Part 2:
If I'm feeling especially brave (and friendly), I speak up and talk about how gp's are social animals and really need a friend etc.
If I'm in a bad mood I mumble under my breath (which is usually loud enough for others to hear) about how wrong they are and how gp's need friends.
Disclaimer: I'm a pretty extreme introvert with fairly strong socio-phobia. I don't "chat" to people easily.
